I wouldn't. Either time to upgrade to new tires or buy a new tire.

I've always been told you shouldn't use a new tire with old tires, if your tires have more than 20k miles or so. Not sure if this is true. But if youve been doing 5tire rotations you can use your spare and buy a new cheap spare or a new spare and do 4 tire rotations and use the spare when you get new tires.

I agree with most of the comments on not trying to repair the tire, but I have not seen it in person. The view of the inside of the tire may make me change my mind.

A plug patch would be my choice and after the repair the tire would be placed in the spare tire spot and only used in an extreme emergency until it could be replaced with the other 4 tires when they are ready for replacement. I'm a fan of the 5 tire rotation, but would forgo that in this situation.

My opinion only. I worked with tires from the 1970's to the 1980's and then started again last summer for a bit. Things have changed a lot with tires since then.

This past fall I had a broken-off knife blade in my wife's Navigator. It was over 1/2 inch in the outer third of the tire and Les Schwab said no problem. Tire still looks good today.

My independent shop deemed this tire, a stock Michelin LTX with only 11K miles, unrepairable. The metal shard caused a 1/2” slice between the treads and the tire deflated within 2 minutes after puncture. I figured I’d ask here before seeking a second opinion from another shop. Thanks, guys.

I wouldn’t trust a repair on that, especially since it’s probably a daily driver. A blow out on the highway costs a whole lot more than a new tire.
