Long time lurker, first time poster! Bit the bullet and traded in my JKUR yesterday for an 18' JLU Sahara. (3.6L Select-Trac, 8.4 UC, LED, Safety Group). The commute in Atlanta in my JK was becoming far too frustrating (fighting tire noise and out-dated tech!). The JLU is a massive improvement!! Looking forward to lurking and maybe posting more! PS> ditched the tire cover, don't worry!

First post, been lurking for awhile and finally joined up. Trying to decide, waiting to see if the Jeep truck will be released before I make a decision. Just trying to gather as much info before I purchase. Will be coming from the Tacoma and FJ world but always wanted a Jeep and figure I might as well cross it off the list.

Not a lot of rock crawling, mainly forest roads, beaches and Uwharrie trails.

JLU - Sting Gray 2.0L Hard Top Wrangler Sport S

Hello,

I just bought a Jeep maybe 6 hours ago. I bought a 2018 JLU 2.0L Sport S hard top in Sting Gray.

This is my third. I bought a 2001 2dr TJ 5-sp soft top Sport with I-6 for my daughter who took it with her when she left for ERAU. Then this past Labor Day, I bought my 17 yr old girl a 2017 Renegade Sport.

Ever since I bought the TJ, I've been hooked. I was driving it every other day until my daughter got her license and I've even done some work on it (had to troubleshoot a starting issue which turned out to be the starter; needed to replace the catcon).

I'm coming from a 2011 Subaru WRX STI sedan. I traded it for the JLU, and I'm not going to lie...I'm seriously going to miss that car. They gave me 17.5K for it (KBB valued it at 19.5K). Gotta love Subaru's trade values (Jeeps are better though). I've a load of STI parts that I'm going to sell so that I can buy Jeep parts.

I wanted to share my initial thoughts:

The first thing that stumped me was that first dial switch next to the headlights knob...had no idea what that was supposed to do and had a difficult time finding it within the manual. This forum helped with that...thanks!

Over time, I will be getting side steps. Bigger wheels/tires may come next year.

I was set on the V6 and was ignoring the I-4 until I actually took one for a test drive today. Wow. That engine is unbelievably strong in such a heavy vehicle. It makes me wonder how much boost it's running. It's almost certainly a twin scroll with the way it's making power down low. While I loved the V6, I opted for the 2.0L instead. We'll see how well it treats me.

The car is not excessively wandering on the highway, even with tire pressures at 40 PSI (I saw that some people have issues with that). While it does require steering manipulation while at speed to keep in your lane, it's Jeep-like.

The engine stopping at intersections isn't intrusive, either. It quickly starts when I need to go. Half the time I can't tell that it's stopped. I realize it has stopped when the engine restarts. It's working seamlessly in this car.

The engine isn't noisy but seems to have more "volume" than the V6. I notice it's sounds moreso than the bigger engine.

The car doesn't hunt for gearing like it's aloof but will switch frequently if you're constantly manipulating the throttle. It'll pull well in the low gears if you keep your foot steady.

I opened the hood after I drove it home from the dealer. It gets hot as all hell under there, and I'm coming from a modified STI. The turbocharger in the JL is on the top right (driver side when you're behind the wheel). I didn't see if there was any shielding on the underside of the hood, but if there isn't, there probably should be. I guess that's why the battery is shielded with cloth.

The head unit display (I've the 7" setup with Alphine) does not lag at all. It is very intuitive in it's setup, too. The display doesn't wash out when sunlight hits it directly.

The only downside is I've to keep using premium fuel (but that was a requirement when I had the STI as well).

I would've preferred LEDs but I could find no Sports with them, and that's a pity because they look great from what I've seen.

They gave me two sets of keys but only one works with the car. I thought that maybe the set that wasn't working had bad batteries but the red LED was blinking on it when I pressed it's buttons. I tried to open the JL's door with it's key blade and it wouldn't open. They gave me the wrong key. I'll let them know tomorrow since I've to bring them the STI's title and extra sets of keys.

I'm stoked to have my own Jeep now, instead of buying them for family members!

Hi everyone,
Ordered my 1st Jeep on Saturday. 2019 MOAB Editon in Granite. Added Cold Weather, Dual Top, Adv Safety & Tow pkg. Going to be a long 60-90 days (hopefully no longer) waiting for it. I've owned 4Runners last few cars and now finally switching to a Jeep. Appreciate the forum and all the members here.

Hey everyone (insert Jeep wave). Had a Jeep in one way shape or form for the last 25 years. It started with my 1990 Jeep Wrangler 4 cylinder manual then bought my son a used 1995 wrangler 4 cylinder manual. Then my daughter got the used 2008 wrangler unlimited Sahara automatic and now full circle with my 2018 JL 2 Door rubicon.

2019 Wrangler JL - 2018 Grand Cherokee
Hi everyone, I have loved jeeps all of my life. My first vehicle was a 1977 cj5 with a 3 speed and inline 6. My next was a 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK unlimited sport. And 3 weeks ago i just traded my jk for a 2018 JL Sahara unlimited. My wife drives a 2018 Grand Cherokee. The JL is a very redefined Wrangler and i think it will be my favorite of all the jeeps i have had. I appreciate being approved for this forum.

Hi everyone by an European enthusiast. I will get soon my first Wrangler JLU Rubi and have to thank this Forum for the great support
I was able to get, looking at news , tech.details, wishes and dreams during the last couple of years. I have no experience so I will not be a great contributor, but at least I will try to use this pcs of metal for what it was designed: to dream as much as possible..(even if in Europe we are getting a less appealing version of the Wrangler)..
My background comes by sport cars and can't wait to experience the exactly opposite side of the medal: the Jeep side..

Newbie here. Long time wrangler admirer. Have never been able to justify purchasing one in the past. Now old enough to retire but still working. Might as well reward myself after a lifetime of toil. Hope to buy a Sahara late summer 2019.

I'm here to learn. Hope you overlook my idiot questions as I'm not likely to ask a good one. Promise to search for answers first. Hope to see you around the forum.

Another Jeep newbie here. Have placed an order for 19 JLUS. Spending way too much time looking at what customizations I want to do when it arrives.

Hey, everyone. Former JK and JKUR owner here. Currently living in NYC, but moving to Houston for work in a few months. Looking forward to having a Jeep again (and paying less in taxes). Going to place a JLUR order soon.

Hello from CO. My last Jeep was a 2003 TJ Freedom Edition and I loved it. Ended up moving to a big City elsewhere and bought a car better able to handle the city life (gas mileage). Moved back and not looking back! Just bought a 2018 2 Dr Sport S with all the bells and whistles. This Jeep is unbelievable! No recalls yet (knock on wood) as the build date was 9/5 or 9/7 (have to look at the shipping order again). Super glad to be back in Colorado Springs again and even better a Jeep! So many off roads options near by!
