I've spoken to several insurance companies, and several agents that I have sold cars to. They do have an appraised value insurance, but it's more for older classic type stuff with extremely low miles driven per year. I have $30k in my Jeep, and won't get near that back. It's no different than a Harley guy putting $15k worth of chrome on his bike. He's only going to get a certain amount back. Like when you trade it in it's only worth a certain amount. You never get your full money back on mods. Nobody cares about them but you.

Also, it's very unlikely that you won't be able to recover a lot of your mods in the case that the vehicle is totaled. Suspension parts probably not but lights, bumpers, rock rails, interior and exterior accessories you will likely be able to remove and keep anyway. So between what the insurance will pay you for and what you can just remove and keep, you aren't likely to lose a lot of money.
