Bought a $36 license plate mounted backup camera from Amazon (brand is called Yakry). Comes with a small 720p monitor about the size of a previous generation smartphone. Has the ability to be used as front facing camera (disable left right mirror image).
it’s not a high quality system but for $36 it’ll get the job done. Powered via 12V cigarette lighter. Didn’t want to hard wire the power in case I decide to upgrade in the future with a different system.
In the photos below, the traffic cone that is visible through the windshield at just over the edge of my hood is located 22 feet in front of my bumper. In the photo of the monitor you’ll see I haven’t yet flipped left-right for forward viewing but there are several cones visible each spaced about 7 feet apart. It is possible to tilt the camera even further downward than shown in the photo to the degree that you can see the bottom corners of the license plate.
