Hi all,
I have on order a 2024 4xe Rubi X, It comes with a trail cam in the front grille, but not entirely sure what all you see with that? (Yes, I'm a noob) .... Do I need or want to install a dash cam in addition to? and if YES, recommendations for said dash cam.

Thanks all.

Trail cam is just what it sounds like, let's you see over that big obnoxious hood of yours. So when you're coming up on some crazy rocks you need to roll over, you'll have a better view than trying to figure out where your positioned looking past that massive hood.

I'm not keen on dash cams, but ideally something with the fair amount of storage space would be and a high quality camera would be preferred. I think @Casey250 has a video about his setup. See if I can't find the video for you...

For some reason or another, the 64 GB one is the cheapest. Which is really dumb because you can get a 512 GB microSD card with 180/130mbs read/write for $35 on Amazon.

Wonder if you can save even more money by buying one without an SD card?? ?

Trail cam is for wheeling. You see the area right in front of your vehicle normally obstructed by the hood. Also great for pulling up really close when parking. It doesn’t record.

A dash cam has a higher and wider field of view. It basically sees most of what you see straight ahead when driving. It records video and sometimes sound which could be useful for accidents or interactions with the police.

I looked at these and I'm confused why the higher memory card systems are cheaper. That's usually the other way around.

Me too! I only wish there was a better way to mount the rear camera further aft and still keep it simple to remove hardtop and not camera. I mounted it on the speaker bar and it's okay.

I have a vantru n4 and a rove can't remember which but it's 4k. R2? Anyway, my advice is go 4k for sure, get one with a capacitor that records if the power is suddenly cut off, and one that does wifi or Bluetooth so you can change settings and download videos to your phone easily

I have/use both. The trail cam is to see where you're going below the line of sight over your hood. It's great for tire placement over obstacles and edges, cresting hills, etc.

The dash cam is for recording, which the Jeep trail cam does not do. We use the dash cam to capture Jeep trail rides, but more importantly to capture events on the road. We were involved in a pretty wild accident in July and the dashcam proved invaluable. I've since installed one in my other vehicle and plan to put one in all future vehicles we own.

We run a VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K in our Jeep and it has delivered consistently great performance. The memory card you use is also important. You want a high capacity card that's designed for security video recording (because it's constantly being recorded to and overwritten). I use a SanDisk 256GB High Endurance Video microSDXC Card.

Thank you so much! I will check out that particular camera and some of the others mentioned! If this strike lasts much longer I'm gonna run out of things to research to keep me occupied!!! :)

I'd also advise researching on YouTube; that way you can get a good idea how images look, how easy/difficult they are, etc.

I have the Blackvue 900X-2CH that others have posted. I have my front dash cam mounted to the neck of my rearview mirror, via two 4" ball bungees.

Surprisingly it holds extremely well. Unfortunately, no company makes a proper Blackvue dashcam mount for the Jeep JL. The 3M adhesive that comes with the cams do not stay put. And I refuse to ever use a suction cup mount.

My opinion:
Get both the trail cam and dash cam if possible. Dash cams are mandatory, and the trail cam -- aside from being cool, is very useful.

Use a 3m command strip cut to size. Mine hasn't fallen off even baking in extreme summer heat.
