Lol, is this true? I haven’t bought my Rubi yet...
Its not a rule. You’re more than allowed to wave from a Sahara. You’re encouraged to.

it’s just a tendency I have observed. I suspect it’s linked to the kind of person who buys a Jeep only to mall crawl, gets a colour matched hard top and never drives with even the windows open. They are predominantly attracted to Saharas for the colour matching fenders/top and creature comforts and won’t buy a sport. They also will have zero use or interest in what a Rubicon offers.

So the end result is - the people who don’t even know that the Jeep wave is a thing will usually buy Saharas.

I mean, how many people knew the Jeep wave was a thing before buying a Jeep? My last Jeep was a Sahara. I waved from it plenty, though in my defense it was a '99 so still a few years before the Rubicon came out.

Before the bag deployment point is settled please let me add that as a daily driver I love advanced safety group for the cruise control that slows you down and speeds you up. I basically hover over brake and use the finger controls on steering wheel to change speed or shut off or tap your brakes to turn the system off if you don’t like what’s happening. It takes some getting used to but oh man, driving in moving traffic is a breeze with this system. I leave it set to max 3 car lengths and my stress level goes way down. For example, if an aggressive driver cuts me off, the system instantly increases the distance between them and I. Somehow my desire to remove them from the road with prejudice is abated. There are other very positive experiences with the system, so I would recommend it if it’s a daily driver. Not much use on trails. Also, I like the side mirror blind spot light and tone as a backup safety device. Oh and, if the sky one touch is an option for you, let me say that as a daily driver it’s open and closed three or four times a day and I love it. Rain, close it. Parked, close it. Dusty smelly whatever, close it. As soon as it’s pleasant, one touch open. What else? Remote start and proximity. I wish proximity was on rear doors but it’s not. Still, quite convenient. Led lighting is a must if any night driving because it really lights up the road well. And finally I’ll say that I think the steel bumper option adds more than just the bumper but I can’t remember. Sorry for the long response here. Now please someone share thoughts on how bumpers do or do not affect air bag deployment.
I would say, since airbag sensors, both electronic and mechanical, rely on deceleration rate to activate the bags, the bumpers likely don't make much of a difference.

I'm no engineer, so take it for what it's worth.

I really like the factory steel front bumper, I have a Warn Zeon 10s in it and I think the fit and finish is great, it fits the Jeeps appearance and i like the removable ends, too. The rear is nice as far as build quality but the design leaves a lot to be desired as noted previously.

I think you would recant that statement about the build quality of the rear bumper if you took it off and realized how light it was. It really is a piece of crap. I was stunned when I removed it.

It’s funny you said this. Waves tend to come from Sports and Rubicons on my end. Maybe they just need to be enlightened? I am tempted to see what waves the High Altitude brings... In all honesty though I have missed quite a few waves due to it compromising mine and others safety in North Texas traffic.

Probably, after I wrote that I went out and looked at it, the color and fabrication is clean, but it does feel a bit flimsy.

Shame they didn't make it a better match to the front.

What did you swap your rear out for?

The front wouldn't hold up to the kind of abuse I put on my bumpers, so it got swapped out for the LOD destroyer shorty. They are pretty much indestructible.

The rear with the tire carrier and accessories is sweet.

Only other bumpers I would consider besides my Mopar steel is ARB or AEV... AEV is slated for end of this year for new JL’s... oh and I do almost no “ rock crawling” or the like. Dirt roads and Northeast snow is about it . Mopar Steel just looks refined and elegant on the Rubi beast.

Both the ARB and AEV are way overpriced. I honestly don't know how AEV gained all the hype. Nothing they make is very impressive and all extremely overpriced. The ARB stuff is also stupid heavy.
