Fantastic! In the meantime, I’m using an external speaker.
What speaker are you using and where did you mount it, if you don't mind? Thank you!

I got a Roadpro external speaker from Amazon. I mounted the speaker to the rear of the Bestop Sunrider for hardtop bracket. It’s mounted off center just above the driver’s head and is concealed by an Alien SunShade, which is below the speaker.

Hey Everyone,

This thread is a couple of years old. I was wondering if anything new has come to market regarding interfacing a Cobra 75 with the JL audio system.

I have an external speaker; but, there's not really a clean location that's not going to be in the way... at least not one that makes good sense to me.

(Also, the links in the previous posts for the audio interrupt no longer work.)

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi @Jeff2018 I haven't been back to this thread for a while...but for anyone visiting, here's what I did:

My radio is a Yaesu FT-857D which is an HF and VHF/UHF mobile radio.

I used a JL Audio amplifier rack (SBA-J-JLU-UAR) under the passenger seat. Drilling some well-placed holes allowed me to mount the radio unit under the seat. I was able to position it in such a way that the heating vent passed under the mount and not directly blowing onto the radio. For good measure I put some adhesive heat barrier under the mount which can't remember where I sourced (probably Amazon).

The head unit/controller for this radio is designed to be either mounted on the radio or remote. Since the radio was under the seat, I chose to mount the head above the rear view mirror. I ran the cables up the passenger A-pillar.

I mounted the VHF/UHF antenna on the driver side using a simple Larsen TMB34 mount. I ran the coax cable through the firewall clutch cap (my machine is an automatic), under the dash then to the radio.

I mounted the HF antenna on the rear tailgate, I have the Mopar tailgate reinforcement kit and there was a mounting spot for an antenna as part of it. I used a heavy-duty spring and quick disconnect. I ran the coax cable through the rubber tailgate grommet, through the tailgate sleeve, up the right-hand side of the jeep (removing the plastic paneling and using zip-ties along the way).

To connect the speaker, I decided to use the factory driver-side dash speaker (as @TRZ above did). I used "The WIZ" audio interrupt from Rogus Innovations. Sourced some factory speaker connectors, crimped those onto The WIZ (with some extra wire length). Mounted The WIZ with some double-sided tape on the inside of the lower-left dash panel (which is easy to remove). Ran the speaker wires up to the dash speaker, the power to the AUX Switch 1 wire under the passenger dash, and the other wires to the radio. Pressing AUX 1 controls the power to the radio.

For the hand mic, I used a CoolTech JL Mic Mount. Ran the cable for it under the center console on over to the radio.

If you'd like any more detailed information, just let me know...

Cheers!
