That's probably to allow full spring flex with sway bars disconnected. I assume it's a worst case scenario, so they won't have someone wanting to be reimbursed from damage caused by a tire crashing into the suspension going full tilt at Moab :)
This makes no sense to me. How do they know what size tires you have? The factory rims with 6 inch backspacing work with the swaybar disconnected. There’s so many things wrong here.

I have 17x9 +12 offset wheels with 37x12.5 on the mopar lift. I only rub the rear inner fenders a little bit under certain flexing conditions. Unless the LCA’s are shaped way different than stock a little bit of positive offset should work. My wheels are from discount as well. Don’t have any pics from straight behind. Sorry about that.

Just ask @cosine he knows!

Not sure what doesn't make sense. As you go up in height you increase the spring articulation travel, which in turn allows for more arc for the tires to cover. As the spring fully articulates the tires will get closer to the inner fender/suspension. I assume vehicle lift manufacturers figure what tire size ranges are likely to be used and figure this into their recommendations. I'm not saying that what you stated is wrong, I was stating that they tend to go murphys law and factor in worst case situations.

Also OP has a sport so the axles are closer to the frame vs the Rubicon.

Didn’t realize op had a sport. That’s 3/4 inch less per side of clearance right there being the sport axle is 1.5 inches less wide than rubicon. So the +12 that fit on mine (rubicon) probably wouldn’t work on a lifted sport. Good eye.

Thanks for the info guys. I am really struggling with hub centric, offset and backspacing. Bought the Teraflex ST2 2.5" lift with shocks. Says I need 4.5" of back spacing or less. I also need to keep my tires under my flares because the NH laws so I THINK I need a positive offset? Or maybe at least zero? Going with 35 x 12.5 R17 Ridge Grapplers.

Curious if you ever contacted the Lift manufacture and got a clear explanation of why they were requiring that particular backspace

I did. They told me I could do 4.75. Ended up with the Mopar bead lock capable.
