I bought a stubby antenna and I can't get the original one off. Maybe I'm weak lol.

@LLRubylady both come off the same... Watch you do not scratch paint / plastic with the wrench. You can place masking tape on paint/plastic to protect it.

Antenna on JK and JL are removed the same way..

Lol you’re not weak.

I thought the same thing.

You need a 3/8 at the base.

See the base of the antenna is flat on 2 sides:

EDIT:

Also with the stubby it simply screws in (no need for tools) I’d wouldn’t go German on it though just get it nice and secure and you’ll be fine.

Let's talk about the flip side, getting the stubby on. Mine from Quadratec came with a double male (threads on each side) connector, one side went in the factory mount, the other side in the new stubby antenna.....it took a while to get it to work...

...seemed at first that this double male was the wrong size...it wasn't.

It’s a Jeep thing...
They haven’t changed that at least since the TJ!
Was a swinging antenna really still necessary? No other technology available?

Bought a stubby. The radio worked worse than factory. Bought a longer, flexible stubby with the claim "better than factory". It was! Can't remember where online I got it. Sorry, I'm old (74.5).
