How come no one makes brackets for the door hinge mirrors?

Excuse the MS Paint image - I'm not a graphics guy.

So, everyone knows these kinds of mirrors. In order to keep them from rotating (vibration, wind, etc.), you have to tighten the hell out of the nut. This can cause paint chipping and other problems.

Why not just put 2 brackets welded to the post that fit around the door hinge that keep it from rotating?

In the image, imagine you take the middle 2 tines off a fork. Then tape the fork to the mirror post so that the remaining 2 tines fit down around the hinge. Now, the post won't rotate forwards or backwards. You'll still have mirror adjustability, because the mirror itself is adjustable. Heck, you wouldn't even have to use the nut if you didn't want to. The mirror would stay in place! It might vibrate a bit, so maybe you want to use it, buy you wouldn't HAVE to.

You could even put some rubber on the tabs to prevent scratches (like on the DV8 foot pegs - https://cpimage.extremeterrain.com/images/600/202207/1417491_B4F788E6.jpg).

I have been using HD Dyna mirrors the same way for years. Never had a problem with them moving on their own. They are a lot smaller than the mirrors you are showing, though.

I'm not quite sure the legality of it, but they make mirrors you can put on your hood. I'm not sure if the ones that go on the tip of your Wrangler would be considered side mirrors or not. But at minimum you could probably always rig up a mount on that panel behind your hood.

There's a simpler solution that you can do yourself... With the mirror in the desired location, drill a hole through the hinge & the mirror post, and then lock the mirror with a small clevis pin.

And when you put the door back in place, the holes make a convenient oiling point for the hinge.

How so? The foot pegs have the same mechanism I'm thinking about, and they don't scratch the paint.

In fact, I've done more damage tightening the mirror nuts and flaking paint off.

Oh, I like that! It might not work for everyone (rust), but we don't really worry about that here. Plus, as you said, an occasional greasing would take care of it.

Those still look like a bolt-on solution. My main motivation is getting rid of tools. Literally, lift off doors (after unplugging them ) and put in mirrors. During the summer, I don't even install the bolts that hold the doors on or the little detent arm that holds the door open. Just the strap and plugs.

Got a set of similar mirrors this winter, being i New England I won't be using them until April the earliest, so haven't even opened them yet. Would adding a rubber washer or the like help prevent scratching and provide some grip against the hinge as well?

Yeah I don't either, The bolts on the doors that is. Every single door on my Wrangler if you open it you can take it off. The only door I even have the little plug connected is the wife door because when she gets in, she likes to light to come on. I don't really care for lights in the vehicle.

Realistically speaking your design wouldn't be that complicated. You could get any number of fabrication shops in your area to weld on the pieces of metal you're talking about. As long as you have the base piece and the two other metal pieces, it shouldn't be that hard to do it yourself either. Assuming you have a welder or something. My dad's got a MIG welder, so I just go use his and put a few dots on stuff from time to time.

I'd say make it yourself guy, I feel the passion for what you're trying to do. I'd love to see the outcome. Though I will say you're probably still going to have to put at least some sort of bolt on the bottom, otherwise vibration and wind will probably end up taking your mirror away at some point.

Shoot my doors off mirror is only on the driver side and it's a $7 moped mirror from AutoZone. I cranked that shit on real tight, because if I ever need another one, it's $7 who cares! ?

It does, and I did. But still gotta break out a ratchet and socket to put them on. Not a huge deal, but still aggravating.
