Started my snow chores today at -4° F. This is definitely winter and the Robins don't seem to care. Yesterday a flock arrived to feed on the remaining Sumac seeds. Tough to get an actual count and I stopped at 80, there were many more. Today they worked on the Sumac again. Central Michigan, over a foot of snow on the ground with a current temperature of 21° F.

After Fedex arrives, I will finish the parts swap and be ready for some snow wheeling. We are forecast for another 4-6" tomorrow. Current weather at the Jeep garage.

-40C, my wife’s 4xE is doing its best impression of a paper weight as it refused to start this morning. My 2018 started on the remote which honestly surprised me as I thought it might need me to start it from inside. Still, it takes several km of driving to have it feel like it’s warmed up enough to behave normally. Luckily, the first few km for us are on dirt roads with zero traffic so we can trundle along at slower speeds to let the transmission and differential fluids warm up.
In a while, I need to get the 4xE into neutral and pull it closer to a plug so we can try to get it to warm the battery pack to a point where it will start. A risk given it has yet another recall saying not to plug it in as it may spontaneously combust.
It did, however, seal its fate as not being with us for long.

That -40 is a good one, lol. Minus 40° F is equal to minus 40° C.

Hey now, don't kick the dog out cause you didn't park closer to the plug. Nice couple of red ones ya have, maybe reconsider.

I'm not surprised, even though I love my 4xe. There's no way I'd ever get one without a garage to store it in. Even in below zero weather my under house garage stays about 55 degrees.

-38 here in northern saskatchewan, Canada. Feels like -46. Has been these temps for a full week now. The 2018 JL starts with remote with zero hesitation every time. Doesn't even have much of the cold whining noise most vehicles get after below freezing temps. Surprised and impressed for sure

We’re currently mid-move (temporarily staying with relatives while we house hunt) between provinces so could only get the non-red one inside, the others have to park outside for now.
Even if we had the 4xE parked inside, there’s a possibility that it gets my wife to work and then leaves her stranded there. Also, it has yet another recall saying not to plug it in for fear of it setting itself on fire.
She likes the vehicle but is put off by the sheer number of recalls and the, new, confirmation that cold weather could cause it to not start. Considering how remote we are now that is a real concern.

Given the current threat of a tariff war, it is likely to not be replaced by another Jeep. A non-hybrid 4Runner is looking quite good at this moment in time.

The garage queen, 🤣:

I'd willingly trade those temperature trends for the 24+ hours of high wind gusts that are still blowing to beat the band.

I. Hate. Wind.

Ok. Calling my own bluff here. I'll take on -6°F, but -40°C = -40°F and this old boy has to tap out.

With respect, it might be time to issue an exit visa for that 4xe.

Locally, wind gusts approaching 60 MPH overnight. That our power is still on probably qualifies as some sort of Divine intervention. The last time we had sustained high winds, I had to replace almost half of the house's fascia. You best believe I nailed everything down like a fiend while I was on the extension ladder.

Mixed feelings about this year's robust winter. I've loved playing in the snow with the Jeep, and running the big girl as circumstances warrant is its own reward.

Still...come March, I know I'm going to start getting impatient for sunnier days.

I was about to bitch over -20F for tomorrow morning, but I think I'll refrain.

You have probably set the bar as far as brutally cold temps go sans the Colorado -44F.

I've been to the great north on several fly in fishing trips and I'm frankly surprised you have insects or their eggs that make it through the winter.

I remember the skeets and black flies were relentless in June.

Stay warm and stay safe!
