Hey yall,
I ordered some hothead headliners and am currently waiting for them to be shipped. I saw they have a way to install them in cold weather on their website. Has anyone installed them in cold weather following their method? If so, do you have any advice? Thanks in advance.

I installed mine in fairly cold weather. Just below 30 degrees F. I essentially used a heat gun and the heater in my jeep to warm up the velcro strips. I got them nice and warm, put them on, and used the heat gun on them for a few minutes. I then waited like 2 days before I put the actual headliner in. So far, so good.

I'd use the heat-gun method that @rforbes mentioned, but bring your removable panels inside for a few hours to warm up, then do those indoors. You can also put a small space-heater in your jeep or just warm it up for 30 or so minutes then use the heat gun on lo as well. Make sure you clean the area really well with a degreaser and then alcohol to prep the velcro attachment sites. It can probably be done in 1 day that way. I used the Mopar headliner and even that made a HUGE difference in both heat/cool and road noise. Of course--then I put an AFE exhaust on it and that all went to sh!t, but hey--gotta have priorities right?

I installed these in November in Western New York (no snow at the time, but temps were upper 20s/low30s). I used the Hothead recommended method of cranking the heat in the Jeep and throwing some blankets over the roof. I did all the prep prior to this (scuffing/wipe down on the fiberglass). All the adhesive grabbed without issue. So far, so good - I'm obviously not inside tugging on anything, but there are no indications of any sag/droop on the headliner pieces.

Great suggestions but please do not use a degreaser. Many of them could have different solvents and oils that would prevent the adhesive from sticking. For preparation for our hard top headliners, we recommend using acetone and for installations on everything else such as for the Skyliner, we recommend using denatured alcohol. We detail what we recommend in the various instructions that we send you and that are also available HERE.

For anyone unfamiliar with a heat gun, obviously use caution as they can melt things quick. Here are our standard Cold Weather Installation instructions that we recommend. If anyone ever has any questions, please feel free to email us at Support@HotheadHeadliners and we'll gladly get back to you!
