We installed a pair of tail light protector from Rugged Ridge, they look really nice. However, on the drivers side there is a hole to the ground around the gas tank fill tube.
Feels like the tire will pack this area with mud and it will rust? On the pic, the white is actually the concrete of my garage.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yep probably normal. I know after an off road trip mine will pour mud from that area as I wash it.

Guess I will pull the tail lights when I fluid film the Jeeps this fall ??‍♂??‍♂

Yep it's normal...I installed the guards on my led's and noticed same thing. Actually made installing the Oracle back up lights easier having that path to use.

FYI - Two years ago I put on the aluminum Rugged Ridge tail light guards on my Sahara. The aluminum must have reacted with the steel hex bolts included with the kit, so that the bolts are now soldered forever.

It’s happened on the same exact spot on both sides. I’ve tried everything; I cannot remove the damn guards any more.

Knowing what I know now, I would NOT recommend these tail light guards to anyone.

Just a heads up.
