Had some conversations in a couple of other threads so I thought I would make one specific for coils.

I have seen negative feedback about RIPP coils a few times (failures) and it gives me pause on them. However, I have not seen any other brands out there such as Accel or MSD offering any coils for a 3.6L JL.

While I am not sold on the thought that a 3.6L (even with a turbocharger/supercharger) needs higher performing coils does anyone know of any brands other than RIPP?

Alternately, will JK coils fit a JL?

Of all the issues with JK JL motors, coils would not be one of those problems I have heard of. Ever.

Agree and (for the most part) "high performance" coils are typically a sales pitch. Countless engines that have superchargers or turbochargers and use OEM coils which are not known as "high performance".

The only time that I have seen a coil fail is when the gaps open on the sparkplugs and over time the coils become stressed and can fail. Even then...I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen that happen.

Interesting, with a coil at each plug I thought that was pretty High Performance. Haha, I'm still old school thinking of when one coil per motor was common.
Indeed!

Gosh the last time I thought about coil issues is when I was restoring my 64 Corvair! LOL! Of all the vehicles I’ve had in the last 20 years, I’ve only had one failure on a 2010 Dodge Journey that I would love to see gone from the driveway. Of course on that one it was one of the backside coil packs and the intake needed removal. So with that I change the plugs at the same time also.

Just use the OEM coils. My 16 JK with the edelbrock performed perfect with the stock ones.
