I hate electrical connectors on my Jeep. I want to unhook the foglight connector on my 2018 JLUR with factory steel bumpers. All the videos show somebody covering up the connector with their thumb and it comes right off. I must be blind because I can't see anything that moves. It looks like you push or pull something but I can't figure it out. Please help. Thanks much.

You can fast forward to about 6:19 where he shows the actual deed....

Thanks but I need the trick for the one from the frame to the factory steel bumper on passenger side. I've been messing around with it for an hour and a half now. Can't figure out what the trick is.

The part is at about 4:23 of this video. Damn I hate these things. Never as easy as it looks in the videos. I even took a C-clamp to it and could not get anything to depress.

Thanks again. Anybody else remove this connector for a fog light or winch install or bumper replacement????

There's no video evident in the quoted post, so have a look at 1:39 in this one. It's the one I used for guidance when replacing the factory fog light bulbs on my JLU.

I believe for that one you push the connector firmly together, then... then press firmly in / squeeze in on the plastic H affair, where the yellow arrow in the pic points to .....as you are at the same time pulling the connector apart.

Here is what it looks like. Nothing in there wants to move. Tried pushing the two together, still can't get anything on the female connector to budge. It's looking more and more like I am going to have to go to a shop to have someone unhook it. These things all have a trick to them that makes them easy to undo, but if you are like me and don't know the trick, you are screwed.

Anybody?? Over two hours wasted on this stupid connector now. Which or those ridges or two tiny tabs in the middle are supposed to move? No way I can push the two connectors together and put enough force on those tab thingies to get it to pop off.

Thanks but whatever she is pressing is covered up. Always looks so easy in the videos. I pushed on that thing with a screwdriver and it didn't budge. Something is either blocking it from depressing or it is stuck. Appreciate the kind help, I am at a loss. Might have to break things to get moving along.

Where do you press on that H affair to get leverage? Upper end? Middle? Lower end opposite where the wires come in? Thanks.

Ok .... Watch her video... at about 7:14, she kinda points to it quickly... puts he finger nail on it and then has at it with her thumb. You press very firmly on the H looking affair..

See circled yellow area in this pic. Press real firmly there and then pull/wiggle a tad to separate.

No go for me. None of those part move even when I push on them with a screwdriver.

Part of the problem is that I have small fingers. Great for getting the SGW cable out, not so great for electrical connectors. 3 hours wasted on what every video shows as so simple. The jeep is 4 1/2 years old now, that probably is also a factor making removal more difficult.

Anyone with any clever ideas how I might use some tools to see if the clip H thing can be depressed so I can pull the connector apart?

I have not taken the connector you are referring to apart, but - I took the fender light connector apart and had the same problem as you. Check to see if there is a lock clip on your connector, then pinch the connector together. Seems counter intuitive to pinch something together that you are trying take apart, but that’s what worked on my connector.

I did mine recently when installing my winch. Remembered it wasn't easy to get undone, but didn't take 3 hours either.

Just went out and did it again to post a photo of how I did mine.

Used a small screwdriver to enter from the back side away from the H thingy in question, and pry the tab down. In the photo, you can see the screwdriver head under the tab as it is pushes all the way forward.

Once inserted, it will slide right out.

I spayed WD40 and let it sit a bit. Then I took a C clamp to it and was able to wiggle off the other part of the connecter. It did not want to come at first but finally pulled apart. I be putting some dielectric grease in the area in case I ever have to go through this fiasco again.

It should not be this hard. Even with the connectors apart I can't push it in without pushing on it with a screwdriver.

Seems like I always get hung up on electrical connectors. Same thing when I did the fender pull to replace my aux battery. It literally took me more time to figure out how to get the turn signal connector off than it did to replace the aux battery, clip the fender back on, and tighten up the bolts.

The engineers who design these connectors are sadists. Pull the red tab in, push the red tab out, press the red tab in, pull the red tab out, push the gray tab down, pull the gray tab up, do the hokey pokey and shake it all about.

I will absolutely try the @unsavory method next time. Thanks for that post.

Thanks @Heimkehr, @Rhinebeck01 and @58Willys for trying to help out an old guy.

Now on to bumper removal and winch plate install. Thank God no more connectors to mess with.
