My 2019 JL recently started showing an ESS error message on startup. I did the aux battery delete a year ago without triggering any error messages so I thought it odd that it would start now. To the Forums I went where I stumbled across a post describing this symptom when reattaching the doors of all things. Since I recently put my doors back on I decided to unplug the harness and see what happens. The error message went away.
The original poster said the dealer replaced the wiring harness to fix the fault. Instead, I took a close look at the pins in the connector and found a couple that were slightly bent. After straightening them, the ESS error message no longer appears. The pins in the connector are way too long and thin to tolerate any misalignment - an odd design for a connector intended to be routinely removed and inserted. So, I’ll take extra care to ensure the pins are straight in the future.
