How big of a hammer are you using? You need at least a 3 pounder. Pickle fork works good as well.

I got it done. I found a big aluminum wedge in the garage. I was able to hammer that in between the knuckle and the C. Sort of like a pickle fork. Then two hits with the hammer and she was loose.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. They were what ultimately inspired me to step back and think the problem through.
