I am considering adding some 55-60lb tires to my Wrangler (sport), which would be roughly 22-27lb increase per axle. My wheels are about the same weight as stock. The diameter of the new tires would be within an inch (.7) of the stock tire (265s). I realize I should expect the Jeep to run more sluggishly and lose a few mpg, and that’s ok (I didn’t buy a sedan on purpose).
My question is, how much additional wear would this put on the Jeep’s engine and components? I’m ok with some loss of pep, but not ok with a legitimate chance of shortening the life of my vehicle.
From what I hear (on the forum) increases in diameter are more problematic for transmission and gearing, but should I expect reaped (or other) problems or legitimate difficulties at highway speeds (I’ve heard a lot of grumbling about this with 285s).
The Jeep is a commuter that does some light to moderate off- roading(not rocks).
Any experiences or thoughts are appreciated.
