do you know what Frequency Range your Decibel Meter is most attuned to? there's no way there's no perceived difference to the ear, and it's that perception we live with.

the human ear is much more attuned to higher frequencies, and that's where wind noise (and some tire noise) is; that range is significantly reduced with the Headliner and SA strips.
not really versed in decibel meters it is the Decibel X app for Iphone. here are screen shots of them.

@jadmt I always believed that the stick on sound deadening material like the sound assassin was to reduce panel resonances only. Also only needs 25% to 50% coverage. For general sound reduction a mass loaded vinyl was the solution. I had a sport car that was loud enough that I wore ear plugs and could only hear the radio when stopped, and that was all road noise not exhaust noise. After some MLV I did not need the ear plugs at all. I also did my JK just in the firewall and footwell area, and that worked ok. If you want to know more let me know because somewhere I probably have the brands and thicknesses etc.

If you ever find out, would be interested

Here are my notes from 13 years ago.
- Use CLD tiles on any resonant panel at 25% coverage. (CDL = constrained layer damping)
- Something about closed cell foam (I never used it)
- Then MLV (mass loaded vinyl barrier)
- Good MLV will have a table of sound transmission loss vs frequency
- MLV can use lead or vinyl decoupled with foam of some sort each side
- MLV needs to be taped or glued so there are no gaps
- Window film claims 4 db, more if both sides are done

Vendors (may be out of date)

https://www.secondskinaudio.com/
https://b-quiet.com/
http://www.cascadeaudio.com/
https://www.dynamat.com/
https://glassessential.com/
thermotec.com

For the Lotus I had I used bquiet vcomp with complete interior coverage, glued so it was one continuous piece. Only openings were for seat mounts, parking brake etc. I also did inside the front doors. And the rear window, both sides, with the glassessenitals film. Big difference to noise.

For the JK I used this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016QUS1YE which is sound deadener and heat insulation. Applied this from as far up the firewall as I could under the front seats to the back of the rear seats. I was mainly concerned about the heat transfer from the exhaust but it did help with noise reduction. Thickness was a bit of a pain.

My feeling is that most of the interior sound was road noise coming from the direction of each tire.

Also with the XR there are some changes from the non XR aimed at reducing noise. So perhaps a Jeep engineer has looked at noise and come up with the best way to reduce that noise. Here were the differences when I got my Jeep. Some of the foam might be orderable.
- CKA Acoustic Front Seat Area Carpet
- GAP Acoustic Laminated Front Door Glass
- Additional sound deadening foam

The additional foam that I can see is at the rear of the hood and between the front and rear doors, but apparently there is some on the windshield frame too. I have never been able to navigate the mopar parts database to look those up, but the foam must be for sale and how much can it cost for a piece of foam?

I think 68534914AA $38 is foam above the windshield. 68527569AA might be the carpet insulation. Like I said I find it hard to track down parts.

I thought they all came with that foam unless you are talking about something other than these pieces..

Ok, then I guess that saves you some time if they are on all 24s.

My wife's 21JLURD came with factory headliners and my 22JTRD didn't.
I feel there is a difference in noise. Definitely a difference in radiant heat felt on the forehead.

I keep saying that I want to do the Gladiator, but haven't yet.

Thanks for the information, from all the stuff you put there I need to learn more before I pull the trigger on that mod.

I installed the Hothead Headliners with their Assassin strips and and the rear side window panels. It made a noticeable improvement with noise and it helped to regulate temperatures inside better. I then installed a Bestop Sunrider and the road noise went up again. Hothead Headliners just released a removeable quick install headliner for the Bestop Sunrider and it cut the road noise back down again and made it cozier. The Hothead Headliners products are top notch.
I just installed the headliner for my bestop sunrider and the hot head headliner for my hardtop with assassin strips are due to arrive Saturday. With hot weather already here in Florida and long drives in the interstate coming up. I’m hoping it makes a difference. So many positive reviews. I had to try it. Ty for you review

I have the sunrider headliner from hotheads and coverking headliner on the back half and it was a noticeable improvement in radiant heat felt on my head in hot Texas summers.

Is anyone able to comment on rain noise? I don't mind the highway/wind noise, but rain noise is a bit much with the hard top. My intuition tells me that headliners would make a huge difference with rain noise.

Yes they help with that too. They deaden some of the echo noise you'd get without them.

I’ve had Hothead headliners in my shopping cart many times but didn’t pull the trigger just yet. I was waiting to see if road noise or heat was too much in my short 1 year of ownership. I’ve been in the humid July heat of Louisiana and been on the road ever since I’ve gotten my jeep. Maybe the noise just doesn’t bother me but I can hear my music fine over it & clarity in my phone calls. As for as cooling, I have leather seats and haven’t had an issue. Now with all my windows recently tinted, I really see no need for headliners as far as cooling goes. Maybe in the future but a decent air compressor has priority for my beach runs.

My 2023 392 has the SOT and HotHead headliner made a big difference for not only road noise but insulation. Easy to install and less than $400. Would do it again

For me I would liken the before/after feel and sound to moving from a tiled/hardwood floor room into a carpeted room. Adding both the top and side HH Headliner pieces, along with the Sound Assassin strips, was totally worth it for me. I could hear my radio before turned up to around 15 or 16 on the radio scale, but it was noticeably better when I installed the liners and I was able to turn it down several levels to hear as clearly after that. Some may not think there is much difference, but for my particular case there was. And yes, they help deaden rain sound, too. Not a huge deal.
