I chose Bacon cause Batman wasn’t an option.

We have two JLURs with SOT tops and I first considered the Hothead Skyliner. However 99% of the top is open, so I found there was really no benefit to be had.

I’m 58 and trust me my range of hearing is not what it was just 10 years ago, but my wife and I never have an issue talking when the SOT is closed. When the SOT is open and the windows are down, it’s loud but we love it.
The two back windows out with the SOT open provides a near perfect flow of air thru the cabin.
Without the two corner windows out and the SOT open at speed there is some turbulance/ buffeting in the cabin.

Obvious answer for the win.
Copy all, and understand Jeeps are not purchased for their quiet qualities. That said, with a simple install and relatively small cost the headliners a) do reduce the noise/temps a little and b) they finish out the inside a bit to where it looks nicer than stock. Did I expect Mercedes quiet with a Jeep? Of course not. Are they necessary? Nope. Do I like the positive effects on the above by installing them? Yes, I do. Absolutely no big deal to me if people don't want them. I just think they add more than detract and they work great for me.

I've got the Hotheads with sound assassins in my JT and it made quite a noticeable difference in both noise and heat. Mind you the JT doesn't have the big open tub in the back that the JL does. I don't have anything in my JLR and it's a soft top so, I'm out of luck on that front. I wouldn't mind it being quieter but I've done 5+hr trips 1 way so far in my JLR with no real issues. We had to talk a little louder but nothing terrible.

I saw some videos on the differences between the MOPAR liners from factory and the Hotheads and the quality difference is night and day from what I could see. I can't tell you how it is personally as I've never directly compared the 2, but I'd def get the Hotheads over factory any day of the week.

Since I've now had the chance to own and compare both I would say the HHs are better quality. Certainly thicker, so absorb more, and the SASs do help on an additional level. The factory panels are good-looking, already installed, and do help, but if they weren't included I'd go with another HH set.

One of the things I had always planned to do to my 2014 JKU was to install a set of headliners.
They were kind of new back then and really only 1 brand available if I remember correctly and I never got around to it.
But I remember how hard it was to cool the interior down in the summer and during the winter it seemed half my heater's output was just trying to counter the cold coming from the plastic roof...
I ordered a set of Bedrugs for our new Wrangler...
There must be some value to headliners cause there are considerably more options available...
Other than the dull roar of driving through the rain I really don't care about the noise reduction, but a little better insulation would be nice...

really that is all that matters.
That, and my wife noticed a difference, and likes it. Sometimes, that matters even more 😉

I took it a step further, and installed Hot Heads Sound Assasin throughout the entire tub. Now THAT made an even greater improvement.

I took a chance and ordered a set of hotheads with the SAS. I will see if it is a $407 mistake or not I guess....not like I have not spent more on worse things :)
You'll like them.
I will recommend (if possible for you), to remove the hard top, flip it upside-down onto a table to do the installation. If you can do that, I guarantee an easier installation (at least I thought so!). 😉
Of course, mines a 2-dr, so relatively easy to do.

We installed a full hothead system with the sound assassin strips on hardtop last summer. Definitely notice a difference in sound and temperature. One thing to be aware of, they do interfere with satellite signals. So interior Starlink may not work if that’s a concern. Although it shouldn’t be running that close to you anyway.

Being looking at headliner for a while and was wondering can it be removed if it get damaged or become a lost cause to clean up ? When I removed is returning the hard top to a factory look and not having leftovers from the install.

FYI I'm particularly interested in the DEI one as the main reason for the headliner is sound related

I installed some hotheads with assassin strips and the decibel meter tells me no difference...I did two loops without before installing and the same two loops after and decibel meter says almost identical average decibels. literally one loop there was 0.3 in favor of the headliners and the other 0.1 in favor of no headliners. They look ok but not $407 ok....

Never heard someone disappointed in them honestly. On the JT forums they are quite highly rated, which is why I got mine and I certainly noticed a difference. But then again, as stated before, the JT doesn't have a big empty tub in the back on the bottom where a ton of road noise comes in. Hopefully you at least notice it being much cooler in the warm months and that'll help you feel better about the purchase :)

do you know what Frequency Range your Decibel Meter is most attuned to? there's no way there's no perceived difference to the ear, and it's that perception we live with.

the human ear is much more attuned to higher frequencies, and that's where wind noise (and some tire noise) is; that range is significantly reduced with the Headliner and SA strips.
