During an off-road party last weekend, my front wheel fell into a ditch. I panicked and subconsciously put my feet out of the Jeep.
Later, someone told me that this is very dangerous and that no matter what happens, I should not put my hands or feet out to try to stop the truck from rolling over.

I ran over my own foot back in the day riding a 4 wheeler...I put my right foot out to stabilize myself (like you might do with a dirt bike) and my pant leg got caught by the right rear wheel and pulled my foot under. Luckily I was off the power and it was only a Yamaha Blaster so not terribly heavy so I was fine other than the "oh shit" factor. Have never done it again.

I know some people have been maimed for life by similar incidents so I was lucky.

Instinctually I understand why you did it, but like others have said, it’s a pretty bad idea.

Even if you don’t roll, picture 4,500 lbs of force on your ankle. The results wouldn’t be good.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
Well my bud found out when he flipped his gladiator on its side that his arm was not as strong as he thought. Multiple surgeries..... He flipped his Gladiator on a down hill slope that was ice. He rolled down his window and put his arm out the window and tried to push himself out through the roof of the Jeep. The Jeep slide down the hill about 4 ft. trapping his arm. They had to lift the Jeep up so that they could pull his arm out from under the Jeep.

Then one of the Jeep girls stuck her foot out the Jeep on the trail and caught it on a tree.

Moral of the story..... Keep your hands and feet inside of the Jeep. Us humans are not tear resistant.

Geez...it's really hard for people to control their instincts, and maybe anyone who can't should just try to keep their windows closed at all times.

It was a very strange feeling, and even though I knew I was supposed to keep my feet in, when I leaned I thought I was riding a motorcycle.
