I wanted to take a moment to tell all the veterans how much you are appreciated. I am more grateful than words can express. Few people possess the consideration, selflessness, bravery, sacrifice and the courage you have and fewer are willing to give so much of themselves.

You're very welcome. It was a great 4 years. Saw 28 countries in 4 years on USS Harlan County and USS Guam, and used the GI Bill to pay for my B.A.

I'm originally from Harlan County, NE and had no clue that this ship existed. Although my cursory search shows it was named after the KY namesake.

Yeah, she was old when I got there (commissioned '72, I got onboard in 1990) but I had an extended life with the Spanish Navy before be scraped. Known as the Super Gator, that flat bottomed bitch rolled like a pig in heavy seas, had horrible sewage problems, and I loved her.
The Guam.... she went out a different way.
