Have a few questions for the radio/comm's specialist here.

Plan is to hard-mount a GMRS radio in the Jeep and want to do it right. I'm 99.9% certain on going with a Wouxun KG-1000G Plus. I love the features, capability, and functionality of the removable face plate. I plan on mounting the face plate overhead on the AAL molle panel that I have installed. Then most likely installing the rest of the radio under the glove box. For an antenna I would prefer to go with a stubby style, like the Midland Ghost or Melowave Shadow.

Questions:

1. I will need to get an antenna mount/cable as well. I have a seen a few different cables out there with claims of having less or no loss, are there actually 'better' cables for the antenna connection, or are they all pretty good (or at least minimally different)? If there are better solutions, any recommendations would be appreciated.

2. In terms of mounting. I was thinking of either going with a hood/cowl mount that works with the Gobi Rack (as it mounts to the cowl), or mounting it on the Gobi rack itself, above the driver. My thought was that having the antenna a bit higher up might help with range, but was worried if there would be an issue with grounding and/or interference since it was mounted to the rack (and there will be a RRT near it as well). For mounting locations, would there be any issues (pro's/con's) with either of these solutions? Are there any other factors I should consider when making my choice on where to mount the antenna?

Thanks in advance!

There are few install threads for the KG1000G if you search for them. It's a great radio. I have yet to mount my permanently as of yet.

Yup, I read through them. Good info, but I was more trying to confirm if there were grounding/interference issues with attaching the antenna to the roof rack.

Make sure the rack has a good ground connection to the body. If not, you can run a separate ground wire somewhere inconspicuous. From there a good antenna would work. Make sure the antenna doesn't need a ground plane.
