So a little background up first. I used to go to Rausch Creek at least once a month with my JKU, but that was 7 years ago and since then I sold the JKU and moved to North Carolina. I am moving back to Pennsylvania in a month and just got a new JLUR so I want to get back on the trails. My question is what mods should I do before heading back to make sure I am going to be ok. I know to bring all the recovery gear, lunch, and water. I am mainly wanting to do greens and blues so I was just wondering if I NEED any certain skid plates or armor first like I did with my JKU. Pics of my old JKU for now too. Thanks for all the help.

I would take it stock a few times learn the Jeep learn the terrain see what works and what doesn't for the area, skids and diff covers are a good add at any size if there are rocks involved

That was my plan, however I just wanted to ensure there weren't any super vulnerable parts that I should protect first.

The most exposed part I would say would be the front diff cover, it's the same pot metal cover that they have been putting on since the dawn of time, next I would say the fad on the front axle it has a skid but nothing I would trust, next would say tranny it's fully exposed and the auto as a few low hanging lines.

I added front and rear skids and rear shock/ca skids, because I beat the H out of them around Tahoe. The rear shock mount are pitiful you need to shield them imo. My front diff drain plug was uneven after a few trails, so I put the Rancho skid on it.

I’ve not scratched the stock fad plate yet.

I'm in a similar boat (er... Jeep) but after a 17 year hiatus after I killed my lifted Bronco II (its sorta running now).

I was thinking Winch and Plate to go with the steel bumpers on mine. Then some decent frame mounted rock sliders. And finally the Rancho diff gliders and rear shock/LCA sliders.

A lift/wheels/tires and other skid plates can wait until I get to where I need it.

Most other stuff is way down the list somewhere.

I was thinking about the same things except the winch and such since I don't have the steel bumpers and I feel that money can be better spent on lift and armor first than a bumper and winch.

I just recently saw a thread where the drivers side exuast loop is vulnerable and if it takes a good hit it can get costly and possibly cause an exhaust leak.
