Fuel Door upgrade

Wanted the cleaner look and bought the Redrock fuel door from Extreme Terrain.

Pulled off the rear tail light housing which is (supposed) to enable you to push in the tabs that hold existing fuel cap housing so you could replace it with the new one. On my 2025 Wrangler 4 dr, I'm finding braces in the way of getting close enough to press in any tabs.

Anyone made this swap, not wanting to scratch the paint around the housing.........another one of these not as easy as they make it out to be.

How is this an upgrade to the existing fuel door? The only difference I see is that this one doesn't say "Fuel" on it

A med sized hand can get in behind the braces to release 2 of the 4 tabs. They are roughly at 10, 2, 4 and 8 o’clock. I used stiff cardboard to insert in between the housing and outer side as I released each one of the tabs (2 then 4 then 10) to prevent them from re-latching. I had to use a plastic tool to get the 10 tab to release. Nothing I could do would let me get close to the 8 tab so I just worked the old housing around, making sure no released tabs re-engaged, hoping to get that tab to release on its on and it finally popped loose.
After that, pull off the old housing and push on the new. Make sure you line up the location pin in the top hole, and push the housing in at each tab position till they snap locked.
I installed my full cap after the housing was seated.

you can do it, so many of us have accomplished it. Take your time and don’t get so fustrated you do something … rash.

Not all trims come with a fuel door. The Sport/SportS do not, not sure about other trims ......

Replace my black one with an oem color match door. I use a trim tool to the closest two from the inside after removing the tail light. Once half would push slightly out, I use a trim tool on the remaining two from the outside. Replacing a door for a door, there is a rubber gasket between the door and the paint so use the trim tool between the gasket and fuel door. Not sure with no door to fuel door if there is a gasket.

Will attack it again tomorrow if the weather donent drop too much. Those tabs are hard to move to me.

i did the descriminator delete for the diesel fuel neck. theres a good video on how to do that, you need to remove the fuel door to do it. i just used a flathead for both tabs, not hard to get at. cant imagine the gassers are any different/difficult, you may just be looking at the wrong thing

Got 'er done. Getting at those clips is a bitch. but my ride now looks like my opening post. No fuel cap showing.

My Sport Altitude did not come with a door, so I had a custom one made to match her side mirror-back decals.
