I always have my wife do the reality check on ads for me. She is an expert at the image search and has saved my butt. She even saved a friend of ours from a “long distance love” with a scammer guy. I am super Leary of stuff on line.

Wanted to share my experience from yesterday with everyone so hopefully people know what to look for. Guy claimed to have Red half doors for sale, new in box. I asked for pics with his name on the paper in the pics. He sent the attached pics. Here are the red flags:

• Paper is a perfect rectangle (cut using photoshop)
• the lines on the paper are not parallel to the edge of the paper
• the shadow on the paper is identical in both photos
• the paper is obviously not laying "naturally" on the boxes - it was photoshopped into the image that he probably stole from this forum or the internet.
• The seller claimed to be in Boston. It is winter - but the photo has nice green leaves on the trees in the background - so it isn't a current photo.
• The seller advised package dimensions & weight - saying each box was only 15 lbs. Seems a little light...

Luckily I noticed these details and busted the guy. But we've all been in the situation where you're excited about a buy and forget to look closely at these things - especially on a small phone screen like many of us use. Anyway - hope this helps others identify things to look for.

In addition to the other issues, the lighting is all wrong on the photoshopped notes. That's a big giveaway that a lot of people don't notice.

In the software world we typically do the opposite so it's sortable. E.g. 2024.01.12.
