I was out on a bumpy trail today and was playing around with the high and low speed adjusters. I was going from full CC to full CW on the low speed adjuster. The rear adjustment is always difficult because of the position of the shock, it would have been nice to have the adjuster on the top, like the front shocks. I think the highspeed setting was all the way open, when I went to open the low speed more, I must have gone too far CC and all of a sudden the whole adjuster came undone with a pop and sprayed oil all over. I retrieved the adjuster and had to force it back in and turn the low speed adjuster CW to hold the assembly in the shock body. I'll have to call Accutune on Monday and probably have to send it in. I just hope the stock shock will fit back in and work while the other one is in for repair. Needles to say I don't know it was possible for the adjuster to back out to far and blow....

A follow up on this problem.....Accutune is going to repair the shock no cost....they said it sounds like a retaining clip may have been missing from the manufacturer....

I thought these shocks were custom valved by Accutune when ordered through them. Sounds odd that something was missing from manufacturer.

Yes they are....it's still in transit to Accutune....I may get a more informed diagnosis later when they actually disassemble it.

We open the shocks and revalve the main piston prior to going out. We do not make adjustments to the DSC knob, thats actually very very in depth to do. We've had rare cases where the c-clip holding things together has either broke or was not seated properly and has come undone. Hard to catch since it's so far inside the shock. Unfortunately for us, this is not a simple fix at all, and requires the entire reservoir to be taken apart. We wont know exactly the issue until we open it up.

For those interested, I put together a very detailed article showing how these DSC internals go together. If you look closely you can see this clip I am referring to:

Mike, thanks for the detailed reply. Your shop should receiver the shock today, I look forward to find out what went wrong.

That's exactly what it is, and they should fix it because that means they didn't secure the retaining clip to the shaft and it allowed the brass shaft to pop out, that's not good at all given the price they charge to rebuild shocks.

That's a great photo, I have mine apart and I just added a .15mm X 1.1OD today.

The idea of sending back 'high performance' shocks and having vehicle down or running some junk while the expensive stuff is in transit etc is crap.

I have one Jeep and no other ride. Yes I am a poor nearly homeless Canadian haha!

I hear you. But that's why you save your stock shocks :) Also, for me that wasn't an option either so I took the route of rebuilding my own shocks which if you understand suspension is a good plan. It's not for everyone but I already have a nitrogen bottle, all of the tools from my motocross days and the understanding of valving, the influence of shim thickness and diameters, shock bodies and seals.

The DSC adjuster assembly is very difficult to take apart and not something we touch with our tuning. I know it can be easy to point fingers, but this was not a tuning error on our part.
