I don’t know if y’all noticed, but my winch solenoid was clicking constantly. That is not good. I checked the connections under the hood; zero corrosion. I guess I need to do some more diagnostics tomorrow, and get into the solenoid box to see what’s going on. Any thoughts, folks?
Voltage drop from high loads cause weird things to happen. Particularly in Florida. Could be nothing really wrong, just a highly stressed but functional system. Maybe take some temperature readings with a laser device and compare different winching loads.

Looks like you were a fair distance from your Jeep with the wireless remote. Could be weak signal, or weak batteries in the remote, maybe.

Another possibility. System in "on-off-on" mode. I hear it happens in Florida all the time, where adults take afternoon naps.

Rob, good point! I will check that first; I’m fixin’ to head out and get to work on it.

Thanks Mike! I’m first going to run out some line and pull it in with just my mild pressure on it, to see what the solenoids do. With a large-diameter snatch block on a 12K winch though (albeit I didn’t strip off that much line), I expected minimal strain. Perhaps the force of breaking 4-6” of oak with the top end of the spool was more of a strain than I imagined; that branch was completely wedged into the tree at multiple contact points.

FWIW, the winch was cool to the touch afterward. Maybe it’s a programmed function of the winch? Also, I have a 220 amp alternator with a 650 amp AGM. Perhaps insufficient? The rating for the first wrap for the Badland is 448 amps at a max pull. Thoughts?

I went ahead and ordered a new solenoid control box, with new remote and cable for wired operation. It’s only $115 and change, no shipping. I was told my battery and alternator are more than sufficient, and that I described the classic symptoms, for that particular winch, of solenoid failure. It’s a 4-7 day delivery. I will keep the old box and tinker with it, so maybe I can have a spare on-hand.

Always have used wired operation, have one winch with a remote but just never use it. Spent a lot of time down Ft. Lauderdale way, Hollywood Beach, Lesters. State Road 441, lots of great memories.

Try taking the revs up a bit, but that would require you to sit inside or have winch mode selected through a tazer. Also, good idea to have it in neutral rather than park while winching.

Nice job, Florida Man! We are in southwest Florida.
... The funny thing about all the "Florida Man" stories is that there is a legitimate reason why Florida "seems" so crazy. Florida has the "Sunshine Laws" which gives very open access to public records and proceedings. So, it is a very easy place to "find out shit". If a news organization is having a slow news day, they know that Florida is an easy place to find a story because of the very open info and records. 65 percent of people currently living in Florida are from outside of Florida. Only 35 percent are native to Florida. There is nothing special in the water here that makes people do crazy shit. It's just that it is a super easy place for the news media to find out about crazy shit, making Florida "seem" more crazy.
