Flag holders on the soft top catches?

Tried searching forums (oh, the keywords I tried) and also did a few general internet image-searches with no luck.
I tried to title this thread appropriately so other wonderers can find it.
What are these rings/holes? They are part of the catches -- where the soft top latches latch onto the Jeep above the windshield.
They seem very deliberate, but I'm not seeing any mention of them in the manual or videos. I'm probably just not looking in the correct places

This would make a lot of sense. I thought they were pieces which were removed with the soft top, but they might stay for the freedom panels. Although, maybe I'll actually use them as flag holders if I ever get to drive the Jeep in a parade
