Fissure mountain trail in Johnson Valley

Ran this with a buddy yesterday and it was awesome! Harder than expected as the rating on trailsoffroad is 4/6 but I would rate this 5/6 or 6/7. There were a few very rocky and steep sections that I would rate 5’s and the exit is a 6 so not sure if it’s gotten dug out and harder over the years but I would not call this an intermediate trail, I would rate this as difficult (but maybe I’m a wimp). I’ve done a lot of trails in Colorado, Utah and southern CA and the ratings on trailsoffroad can be inconsistent depending on who’s doing the ratings.
So much fun!!!! It’s exactly the kind of trail I like, not easy but not sketchy or crazy hard. I’ll be doing this one again ?

The first trail I did when I picked up my Jeep from the dealership was Berdoo Canyon into Joshua tree National park on day 2 or 3 of ownership. You are going to love the Jeep!

It’s Johnson Valley OHV, dispersed camping is allowed anywhere….. so yes there’s good camping spots but you have to find them and if it’s a weekend you won’t be alone. This is where King of the Hammers takes place!

I have never made my way to johnson valley in all my years of living in ca. I am debating doing rattlesnake canyon again in a couple weeks.

Its a good trail. we ran into the cattle rancher while wheeling up last year. Very nice Gentlemen But very sternly asked to keep the speed up the canyon down as he free ranges the cattle in it. My group and i talked with him for about ten mins. Would love to have had a beer with him. Oh well. Just make sure you keep the dust down. I would like to run it with a little snow that would be a blast!

It’s possible they got a little snow yesterday, it rained here all day and I see snow in the mountains! I am not a fast wheeler, I tend to be on the slower side and sometimes I’m the guy holding folks up ??‍
