Thought I would post a few thoughts after my first 200 miles in a 2019 JL Sport S with 3.6, Auto, LSD, Trailering, Cold weather and Hard Top. I feel most purchases of Wranglers are for a purpose and mine was to tow behind a motor-home and to be able to have the capability to explore. As such I was looking to go as light as reasonable. No issues, it is what I expected and I am happy so far.

That said I have a few observations and let me pretense them by saying I live in New England and was born in the 50’s:

1. The good thing about the ESS system is it can be shut off and it reminds you that you have forgot to shut it off.

2. Even this time of year the heated seats are very nice. The concern here is if you get the Cold Weather pkg the Convenience pkg is mandatory. Since the remote start is part of both, the Convenience pkg price is reduced. Come on FCA, have two separate and complete packages and show the true cost.

3. The remote is large and proximity is only available on the Rubicon. I get that the concept that the more expensive models may have better options for marketing but let’s get real. As I stated above these are purpose vehicles. A Rubicon with its sway bar disconnect and lockers is made for serious off roading. The fob is easy to leave in your pocket but you need to get it out to lock and unlock. FCA should either add proximity into the remote pkg or add a screen and cell phone to make its size reasonable.

4. Applause for FCA making a flat tow wire harness available. But it should be a factory option as who wants to pull apart your new 40k purchase to install it. And while I am on this, how about a package with the harness and a towing base plate? An off the shelf flat tow vehicle. Again, these are purpose vehicles. They are purchased for off roading or due to their ease for flat towing. A purpose-built aluminum front bumper could be made available that meets the purpose of both.

Do not feel I am disappointed in my purchase as I am far from that. What I am looking for is to add suggestions to make it even better.

Proximity isn’t only available on the Rubicon- you can get it on the Sahara and it’s standard on the Moab. Actually, I’m surprised to hear it wasn’t an option on the Sport S... I thought it was.

But your point remains, they’re trying to force you into the more expensive trims.

Problem is the Sahara and The Moab are not available in the two door JL only the unlimited JLU.

Oh you’re right, good point! You said “JL Sport S” not Unlimited, my fault for assuming you had a 4-door.

Yeah the Sahara at least should be available with two doors. It’s kind of a travesty that it isn’t. They’re really neglecting ye olde two door Wranglers.

@Nutmeg, thanks for posting up your 1st thoughts. I'm also planning on buying a 2door Sport S soon and tow behind a motorhome. I will get about the same options as you, but add the Technology package for the driver display and 7" radio. What color did you get? Pics? Enjoy you new JL 2dr!

After a bit of debate went with the white for the contrast with the fender's and roof. Will post once its rigged, going with the Currie Enterprises tow plate.

It's early in the production run, I expect to see Special Editions, more good stuff added for 2 and 4 Dr. We have a 10 year production run to look forward to, visions of Sugar Plums !

Your Sport S looks great! I haven't decided on White or Red yet. But your white sure looks good. Thanks for the pic. Have you decided on a brake system for towing yet?

I have a brake buddy vantage select that I have been using for several years that I will reuse with this toad. Need to install a power outlet and may use one of the 40 amp Auxiliary switches for that or pull in a dedicated line with the break away wiring.line. Getting the vehicle broke in and insuring no infantile failures before I go adding additional wiring and disassembling it..

Instead of a factory flat tow option, I oh, so much prefer that FCA would instead offer a factory option for the 2 inch lift, juxtaposed to the after sale MOPAR lift kit. I bet this option would out sell the flat tow thingie by at least 100:1.

You will miss having the extra room with the unlimited. I can speak from experience, Owned a 2009 Unlimited Sahara, and then upgraded to 2013 Unlimited Sahara, to do what? Tow behind a 40' motorhome. But, we always need to take stuff with us, which won't go into the RV, so the jeep get it's load of stuff as well. Having that extra room is great, especially with the receiver hitch for the bikes. It's a nice rig nevertheless.

My whole process was a this or that. 2 door vs 4 door, JL vs JK, buy now or wait for the 2020. The ride quality and seating comfort made the JL win out over the know qualities and the fact the JK is a little more flat tow friendly. 2 vs 4 was a long thought process of plus and minuses of both. In the end it came down in the favor primarily of weight with overall length secondary. Running a 38' Gas rig so lighter is better. 19 vs 20 was a difficult call. I wanted to stay away from BGS but was concerned if the other known issues would be addressed. With the only choice Sport or Rubicon that was a issue, In the end I ordered the Sport at the end of March hoping the improved parts would be included and knowing I could get my preferred engine. It takes a lot of thought to be going in eyes wide open,
