Hey all,

I purchased the Morimoto LED side marker lights ( website ). I went to install them today but ran into issues despite following the instructions step-by-step and watching the video.

Jeep Wrangler JL Fender Vent Lights Wiring - Question Morimoto

The lights only have 2 wires: one red and one black. The OEM wiring bundle for the turn signals on the Jeep have 5 wires. Per the photograph, you're supposed to tap into 2 of the wires as shown. When I did that, the fender lights were always on and didn't blink when the turn signal was activated.

The order of the wires from left are: black, white/yellow, white/brown, white, and yellow/brown.

I kept the black-black connection and re-did the red wire (you can see the electrical tape to repair the damage, the red t-tap was re-used). I connected the red wire to the white/yellow one however the lights didn't work at all.

The website, instructions, videos and other purchasers/reviewers all show it working.

I want the new fender vent lights to blink when I use the turn signal.

What am I doing wrong? Please help!

A quick look at their video install, did not see where they showed it to "blink" when the turn signal is activated. All I saw was it lit up as a side marker.

I have the Oracle version of those, and had the same issue with the lights always being on. I had to turn the DRL setting for the fender marker lights off.

Hmmm, I think you may be right and I made a false assumption that they would blink with the turn signal activated.

I had the XK Glow version ( website ) on another Jeep that had a 3-wire connection and would blink. They were great however some LED's stopped working after 3 years or so. I thought I'd try something different...

What the lights do will be a function of how you wire them. If there are only two wires, one is a ground. Connect the other wire to the turn signal wire in the fender, and the light will be a turn signal. Connect it to the "marker" wire, it will be a marker light. (No flashing)

If you only have those two wires, you have to chose how you want the light to function, and wire it accordingly.

I installed the xkglow version, they act as DRLs and turn signals. Note, you don’t have to splice the black wire , just use one of the grounds in the engine bay on each side there is one. I also did not use those lame jumpers, cut the wire on the fender wiring harness - the one that runs to the lights, and do a proper splice that will last through the elements - weather. I also did a fuse jumper for the power wire. I think I used the heated seat fuse, only power when Jeep is on. Additionally, you could buy this connector from Amazon and not have you mess with the factory wires

Nice! The harness is a little pricey, BUT for old guys like me, doing the wiring on the bench, then plugging it in is often worth the price. Wish I knew about that a couple years ago when I installed the Oracle Sidetracks...

I bought it for about $5 less before the tariffs. Parts are expensive all around😢

I know. A custom piece that I ordered from Australia was sent back by the Postal Service because a plan was never put in place to pay the "de minimus" tariffs before the policy was put into effect. I just want my part.

Take a look at this link…. It has the wiring schematics and wire colors for the turn signal lights and others. It’s what I used to wire mine……
