Fender Install Question

Removed JLUR fender flares to install aftermarket fender lights. Now attempting to reinstall the fender flares. Having a hard time. The white clips remained on the Jeep body when I pulled the fender off. The clips appear to be 2 parts. Am I supposed to separate these white clips somehow to get them off of the body of the Jeep and then reinstall them while holding the fender in place?

Or am I somehow supposed to fit the fender onto each clip while the clip is attached to the Jeep? This is my first time attempting something like this and I'm stuck!

Reach behind the back side of the clips and remove them from the body and install them back into the fender

Just squeeze the pin it has a couple flanges that you can squeeze together and then they'll pop right out.

Thanks! I'm guessing I need some needle nosed pliers to accomplish this? There definitely isn't enough space for human fingers to fit behind it, not to mention not having space to depress the clamp holding the clip to the body of the Jeep.

Exactly what I did long needle nose to squeeze those tabs made it easy-peasy

I like to use a small closed end wrench. You can find one that is just a little bit bigger than the clip that will compress the wings. Then it pops right out. Lessens the chance of breaking the clips or scratching the paint.

I saw clips on Amazon but they seemed to be for the JK. Maybe I overlooked the ones for the JL.

Either way, I was trying to salvage the clips I had so I could install the fenders today. Luckily, I succeeded.

So I found a trick to make the JK black clips work on the Jeep JL. You can take a small drill bit that goes into the area between the two clip parts. and you drill away a little bit of the center part that slides into the fender. The main difference between the JK ones and the JL ones is that the parts that slides in the middle into the fender is thicker so it doesn't quite fit.

I feel like the black ones are actually a stronger fit if you use them the way I just mentioned. That is what I did since you can get rivets, clips and the tabs for $9 on amazon.

But They may be harder to get off later lol. I haven't tried to do that yet. All i know is the rear fenders you break a lot of the white clips since you can't get to the backside of them to get them out.
