Need some advice..
I dropped my 2020 JL off at the dealership last Tuesday for corrosion warranty and to check out a thumping sound coming from the front end.
I just picked up the Jeep and was told my rear differential assembly is broken and the parts are on a nationwide backorder. I asked if I should be driving on it not knowing if this can be dangerous or create more issues in the transmission or other parts.
The 2 parts the dealer ordered are:
68640507-AA
68249593-AA
The dealers exact words are “it won’t blow up on you, keep driving it”
There is no ETA on parts.

Just wanted to see if any of you had run into the same issue or how you would handle this.

Thanks

Thats terrible to hear.. Is the Jeep at the dealer? Or are they having you drive it until parts come in?

There's no driving it. Sounds like an unbalanced washing machine now. We were given a Cherokee to keep us mobile.

The LSD Dana44s have a problem where a differential failure wears out axle splines. There is a couple hundred page thread about it on the forum.

Mine did it at 25k miles, they replaced the differential and the axle shafts. They ordered a whole assembly for yours.

What are you thoughts.. Safe to drive the Jeep until parts come in? Service tech at the dealer said there is none around and 8-9 at other dealerships nationwide that might be allocated for customers already…

Ours was probably driven 2k miles after the noise started waiting for parts, its been about 15k since the repair and so far so good. If it fails again I would get an aftermarket differential.

OP: you mentioned Front End in your post but I assume it's the Rear based on the input. My '23 had gear whine on decel. that was incorrect mesh. It took 2 replacement axles to get it right (yep, 1st replacement also had "zero" mesh). The dealer would not let me drive it due to safety concern and had no loaners but they did get me a rental that they paid for after I opened a Jeep Cares case but... mine was new with 2k miles.

I originally thought it was something with the front end. I could feel the thump under my feet when decelerating. Thump is traveling from the rear axle/differential. My jeep is a 2020 with 28k miles. Thump started about 2-3k miles ago and I finally got the dealership to confirm the thump. (It happens 100% of the time driving) Was told 3 times a tech could not mimic the sound. Seems like the thump is getting harder/louder everyday. With no ETA on parts I don’t want to end up breaking down.
Not sure how I get the dealer to give me a loaner and keep the jeep until the repairs are done.

Jeep can't seem to get a break. The list of problems just seem to keep growing for the brand. Looks like now they can't even count on a premier supplier of differentials to provide them with a sound product. There is no excuse for this, it should have been picked up during factory tests. I guess there just slapping them together as fast as they can and not doing any quality testing.

One thing for sure I am glad I purchased a few year old Jeep that had all the bugs worked out of it.
My heart goes out to those who have spent 10s of thousands for a brand new one just to have to take it back, wait weeks and then have dealer techs try to put it back to assembly line condition without screwing something else up.

Jeep needs to step up when it comes to quality control!

Ask the Dealer to get you a loaner or rental telling them you believe it's a safety concern - if they decline, I'd send the GM an email stating your concern (put some liability on them) then open a case with Jeep Cares.
