I replaced my factory 12-volt battery in my 2019 JLUR with 2.0 Turbo and E-Torque. The battery supplier told me not to use the factory battery cover/blanket because they cause AGM batteries to run hotter which is not good. I believe the factory battery is an AGM so I wonder if this guy knows what he's talking about. I would think that the blanket may do the opposite and insulate the battery from engine heat? Any thoughts on this? If the factory battery is indeed an AGM and Jeep puts a blanket on it, then I see no reason to remove it.

That blanket isn't there to keep heat out. It's there to insulate for cold weather. You're not going to hurt the battery leaving it there.

I'm questioning this, too. The mice love to hang out on mine. Bonus: not only is it comfy but it's fun to chew on.

When I removed the cover it revealed a lot more rodent nesting debris and droppings around the base of the battery. I'm seriously considering trashing it. I ditched the one on my '05 Canyon years ago and never had a problem, but the JL engine bay is tighter and hotter than most IMO

I'd prefer to avoid the suggestions of "you just need better rodent control". We have an amazing mouser with a death stash in an outbuilding which is truly impressive. As many things as that cat kills I don't understand how anything smaller than a cat is still alive around my property.

I had to laugh - this sounds like my place! I removed the cover/blanket shortly after I got my Jeep for the same reason, the field mice liked it.

Thanks for the inspiration, upon further reflection I'd rather risk shorter battery life (and I'm skeptical this is really an issue) than chewed wires and vacuum lines.

I'd also rather diagnose a bad battery than chase electrical shorts or breaks......

thus the fuzzy cover now resides in the galvanized round filing cabinet...
