Hello 4x4 Experts! I am a 4x4 newbie and have a question I am hoping this group can help with. Sorry for the long winded post.
I have a 2018 JLU. This is my first fun car, after years of mini-van driving. I've taken it to Praire City OHV, done some training with Barlow Adventures and are ready to get it dirty on the trails.I am having an issue, however, that is keeping us from hitting the trails. I installed a 3" Fabtech Motorsports lift, with Dirt Logic shocks. The ride was really nice for the first 6 months, and then about 8 weeks ago, we noticed it was bouncing, oscillating on bumps and generally feeling like an Oldsmobile Delta 98 (you'll get this reference if you ever drove one). After talking to a few mechanics, they said the rear shocks were leaking and likely bad. I called Fabtech and the tech was quite condescending, stating that there is no way two of their shocks have failed and I must have done something wrong. That was a little irritating, as I had only driven around town, other than 1 day at Prairie City learning the basics. When I asked if they would replace, they said they will NOT, but would repair if we sent them in. They also said we had too much weight on the vehicle. Again, surprising as I have replaced the bumpers with metal bumpers, have a tire carrier and a roof rack. The total change from stock is < 200lbs. This is less than one person, so it seems hard to believe I over-loaded the shocks. I did send the shocks in, and, to "their surprise", they had indeed failed. They offered to rebuild and re-valve for more weight, but charged over $100 for this service, and I also had to pay for shipping beyond this. They said it would take 10 days and after well over 6 weeks the shocks were returned and I just got the shocks re-installed and there has been no improvement at all, in fact they are worse. The car now feel dangerous to drive, which is a problem as this is my only car. When I called Fabtech, they said that they will still not replace, but if I want I can send them back in for another "attempt" to correct. They acknowledged that re-valving for them is a bit of guess/trial and error approach.
OK...so, finally to my question.
Is this typically service of this company? To treat new 4x4 owners without respect and to not have answers or offer to replace shocks when there were clearly some manufacturing issues?
Any recommendations how to proceed, or a better shock to work with our jeep?
If you made it this far, thank you for your time, and any advice you can provide.
