For the record, my two extremes for performing a roadside tire change are:
  • Minus 2° on I70 at the Continental Divide
  • Plus 114° in Metro Phoenix.
That's 116° delta between the two. Can anybody beat that?

I am really thankful as I get older. I have the luxury to call AAA while waiting in Starbucks to change my tire after a storm in hot Florida muggy afternoon... Nowadays, I will at most plug it and fill it up with an air compressor and anyworse I will just tow it to get a new tire.

I’m getting lazy as I get older or I can just afford to be my true self.

Here's the setup: I had my wife's jeep's wheels on my jeep, she had my wheels on hers. I had an appointment at a tire shop in a couple of days to get new tires on her wheels, then I was going to swap them back onto her jeep in the comfort of my garage. The best-laid plans and all that.

The problem: My clutch died while I was out and I had to have it towed to the dealer. The dealer couldn't look at it for a few days.

So, I had to drive my wife's jeep down to the dealer lot the next day to get the wheels back onto her jeep. There I was in the service department's parking lot, in the pouring rain, doing a ten tire rotation with two scissor jacks and a torque wrench. The temperature may not have been extreme, and technically not roadside... but I was out in the elements.... and it was "extreme"ly annoying... and an "extreme" number of tire changes in an hour!

I’m guessing your wife doesn’t drive manuals Dave? You’re a good man dude. I woulda rented her a car for the day rather than go through that.

When I was much younger I had a left front blow-out while doing 95 MPH. I pulled over to change it out and as I opened the trunk I looked at my watch. I had the tire changed and was doing 100 MPH in under 3 minutes

I changed a flat on an F150 at -36˚F so I have the low under my belt, but my high temp is only upper 70s or low 80s so far. Although they are predicting 100˚ temps for Montana next week, I'm not planning on changing any tires. BTW, any tire changing below freezing is Damn cold, The -36 would not have happened if I hadn't been at the nice warm cabin so I could warm up every couple of minutes. Had to put the jack on the wood stove to warm up the oil so it would pump. Got the truck running before I started so it was drivable when I was done. Seemed like an adventure back then, miserable now.

Worst yet was changing a tire on one of the switchbacks on Black bear pass a few years ago. It was drivers side rear so it was right on the edge. We were pretty happy to get to Telluride and grab a cold one after that!

Ken, I'm relinquishing my bragging rights to you. 114° was easy compared to my below zero experience. My fingers are still thawing out. Minus 36° - wow.

20 below when I lived in Vermont. Had to use the defroster on my hands every 2 minutes. At +114 I would drive it on the rim!
