Experience w/ hood blackout decal

Between my sensitive eyes and my - I guess - shiny hood, I think a large black out decal would be in order to reduce / eliminate glare. Does anyone have experience with these things? Are the effective? Do they last?

My morning and evening commutes were directly into the sun. The glare off of the hood was blinding. My Eagle Scout son designed a custom topographic hood decal. It came out great IMHO. It minimizes sun glare off the hood and still looks like new after several years. I suggest covering as much of the hood as you can if glare is an issue for you.

My hood decal doesn’t cover everything but it looks good and helps with glare in the center. From LB Designworks. You can also go to a tin shop and have them wrap your hood. Food for thought.

Thats awesome. I've been contemplating doing something similar with Mount Katahdin (the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail) creating a simplified topo of the mountain with the AT logo and summit elevation and depicting Hunt Trail.

Your son did a great job with the design for Baldy.

A good sign shop can make one and even install it. I really the 1941 one.

Thanks! My son downloaded an actual topo map of Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, dropped the image into Photoshop, and deleted some lines for clarity. He worked on the design for many days during the Covid lockdown. The decal looks good and minimizes sun glare off the hood so it's also functional. @pixeldecals printed it for us.

@Halxen A topo of Mt Katahdin in Maine would look great! Much nicer than a generic topo decal.

The matted black certainly helps. I travel from LA to NC once a month and it has made a big difference. Here’s a picture of mine. I added the decal in 22. It was done by a local custom wrap shop in NC.
