Question for anyone with paddle shifters (392 owners or anyone who’s swapped in paddle shifters):

When are they supposed to be functional? Are they only supposed to work when your shifter is in manual mode?

I swapped a 392 wheel with paddles into my rubicon, and I programmed it with the JScanner app on my phone. The paddles are now functional - all the time. When I’m driving with the trans in D (not manual mode), I can tap them to shift up and down. I’d normally be fine with this, but for some reason when I do it, my gear indicator on my dash disappears… I have mine set to always display what gear I’m in even when in auto mode - but when I tap the paddles it goes away? If I’m in manual mode they work fine and show what gear I’m in… Shifting back to manual mode resolves this issue.

Here’s a video of what I mean

The paddle shifters were designed to work with manual mode only. You’d be heavily interfering with the programming of the TCM in Auto mode which would eventually lead to internal failure at some point. The computer would be constantly trying to override your shift input.

Got it. Ever used the JScan app? Not sure which setting I should change to get rid of that. I honestly don’t see a need to use them in auto mode.

That’s what I though, until a couple weeks ago when I accidentally brushed a paddle ( didn’t know it was a paddle I brushed) Went directly to Jeep because the Junk Transmission quit shifting unless manually!! Got laughed at, paddles put it in manual shift. ? Oh yeah— shifter was in D, tried tapping it back and forth. When paddles put it in manual you have to put it in park to reset.

Do you have your dash set up to show what gear you’re in? If you do, does it remove the gear icon when you tap a paddle in auto mode?

I’d pose that question to @Rhinebeck01 for a proper response.
@Beachcomber72

I have not dealt with that particular JSCAN setting..

For specific ? regarding that JSCAN enabling, I would reach out to "Piotr Bialic" who is the guy who brings us JSCAN...

You can ask Piotr questions at FaceBook's JSCAN LOVERS group. He is good at responding and will walk through problems/settings with a JSCAN user.

Remember, he is in Poland so there is a time difference..

Yes it is set— unfortunately I was too PO’d to notice question two, sorry.

Apparently I’m way wrong in that statement. You ARE able to properly use them in auto mode. I was wrong sir.

So yours does the same thing as mine in that video where the gear number disappears when you tap the paddles in auto mode? Weird maybe it’s a bug with the dash software…

Incorrect— I didn’t notice if it did or not, too busy trying to get it to work. ??‍♂
