I have a 3.6 Sport with a MT. I’ve noticed that when I first start using the Jeep, after the warm up period for ESS (5mph achieves I think). ESS functions as expected. However, after a while of driving in warmer weather and with the AC on, the ESS does not engage.

Does anyone know if that condition is a malfunction or if it’s behaving as designed due to some combination of factors such as temperature, AC running, etc?

UPDATE: I think I found the answer in the manual:

• Actual cabin temperature is significantly different than temperature set on Auto HVAC

Hmm. I was driving in Palm Springs today. Temp was 115 deg. I got the message: ESS Not Available. The A/C was set to 65 deg to keep the A/C running. The cabin temp was no where near that. I will know tomorrow after the Jeep is cooled and I drive in a cooler morning. Thanks for the post.

The Messages display said that my ESS was not working and that I needed to take it in for service. Actually, the cabin temperature was the culprit and after shutting down the Jeep and restarting it, all was well. The next Jeep version might want to let the driver know that the ESS message can be solved without a visit to a shop. FYI
