I hate to start this thread, but even with all the ESS threads I haven't found one with my issues. 2019 JLUS Altitude, 3.6 no etorque, 8 sp auto.

Wife was driving it this morning on the interstate and the check engine, ESS light and service ESS illuminated. She said it started running rough and she got off the interstate and stopped. When I got there I drove it around the parking lot she had stopped in and the lights were still illuminated and it was running rough, like maybe there was a misfire. The voltage showed 13 and everything else was in normal ranges. My first thoughts were batteries. The ESS hasn't worked for several months and they are 5 years old, yea I know better.

I drove it about 15 miles home and it ran rough. The check engine light would flash for a few seconds then stay on for a few seconds. Volts showed 13 the whole time and everything else was normal. I pulled the main battery and it showed 12 volts. I took its to Auto Zone and the kid put the tester on and said it was good with a 75% charge. I told him it should have a full charge as I had just driven it home. I bought a new battery, charged and installed it. After I put it in I disconnected the negative cable for the ESS battery and pulled fuse 42.

I started the Jeep expecting everything to be fine and had the same indications as before (except voltage read 14.1) and the rough running engine. I bought a code reader and the only code is P0306, cyl 6 misfire.

Anybody have a similar experience or any ideas? Thanks!

Not the batteries. Flashing check engine is a major issue usually. You are getting the flashing because of the misfire. I’d get it checked asap.

I recently had a check engine p0304, cylinder 4 misfire. Mine was due to a coolant leak according to the dealership. When it was happening I could sometimes smell something sweet burning at startup. Mine is 2019 jl sport s, 3.6 auto no etorque.

A 12V battery at 12.0 volts is about 50% charged. Not good if you'd been driving for a while.

It is certainly possible to have a weak main and have a completely separate issue present. The world is more complex than our brains want it to be.

Thanks for the replies. Interesting that whiskeys was from a coolant leak. My coolant level hasn't dropped in at least 6 months and i never smell coolant. What was the fix?

I currently have my 3.6L 8sp auto in the dealer for cylinder 6 misfire. I also thought it was the battery, my only indication was auto start/stop light was on. It's been 3 days, no update, so not sure what's going on. Could be a spark plug, coil, or even CO2 sensor I've heard. I just saw a related forum on here called "Warning for all you 3.6L folk" I''d go give that a read.

I just had my jeep for 10 days after 3 months at the dealer getting a new transmission. I'm about done with these POS Chrysler products
