Thanks Will @WranglerMan . I wonder if my 24 X 7 dual dash cam is the culprit, or part of the culprit here. You should not have to constantly put your Jeep on a trickle charger for ESS to operate correctly, I would be looking at your battery voltage to see what it’s reading at the source and not what’s diplayed in the EVIC, what is displayed is kind of the voltage but it’s the voltage with alternator influence, case in point if you are seeing 14+ volts displayed that is the battery voltage with the alternator running full blast trying to charge the battery
When the rig is off it goes into a "parking mode," which not only is suppose to draw less energy from this otherwise very low drain appliance in all its modes (e.g. driving/parking), but the camera is suppose to shut down if it takes rig battery voltage below a user controlled level. I think its highest cutoff was 12.4V. Other than that, I charge an LED flashlight (i.e. very low draw) and only when the rig is on: it's plugged into an accessory only energized rig outlet (i.e. energized only when the rig is on: double tap on starter button, with or without brake pedal pressed, i.e. engine crank.)
Whatever that highest cutoff was on the dual cam, that's what I set it to. Combined with being a light use vehicle maybe this is it; which is fine.
Like most of us I'm no great fan of ESS but I'd say I tolerate it better than many. Taking it to service would be something I'd do under warranty to potentially expose bad batteries (either/both), alternator, dual dash cam, or short/energy sink, etc., that might be causing this.
The energy of the trickle charger is so minimal that using one source of energy (electricity) to enable the savings of another (gasoline, ESS) is moot. It's only in principle that I take issue with it.
I've never had problem cranking the rig, and this recent failure for ESS to kick in (resolved by the trickle charger) has never been associated with a diagnostic condition from the dash.
Thanks.
