We all know what 1st world problems are, right?...like waiting in line--whereas 3rd world problems deal with securing a food source, etc.

Mine's a zero world problem if you will---it's the "Kim Kardashian missing her spray tan appointment" level of seriousness....(that is for the rest of the world, not Kardashian;))

or maybe not if it reflects a more serious underlying problem.

Rarely does ESS come on for me, despite my not disabling it through any of the 7 or so methods. Nor do I get warning messages.

Maybe after a long trip it will engage, which is suggesting to me that maybe my rig's batteries maintain adequate but not maximum power.

I'm guilty

...I'm a short trip low mileage driver. I have a dash cam that stays on when the rig is shut down, but is designed to not only go into battery saver mode when the rig is off, but shut off completely if the battery voltage--which it senses--drops below a user configured threshold.

Any thoughts on most likely culprit(s) for this "problem."

Again--to those who'd say why complain about something pleasant, I'm only concerned that it might be indicative of a larger problem.

Thanks.

I’d unplug the dashcam and put a battery tender on overnight.

I had this "problem" when I test drove a few JLs (didn't think much of it at the time) and now with my own JL. Turns out that I don't push the brake pedal hard enough (I push it hard enough to stop, I don't mash it like some people may). Try pushing the pedal harder.

I don't drive mine nearly enough. Maybe once every week or two so I keep mine on a tender.

Maybe I will too. I've got my daughter's car, (she's away at college) on one. Thanks.

I should just lurn to drive mine and injoy the dam thing. I've killed many battery's on trucks in the past by not driving them enough so just about everything has a tender now.

I had the same issue but it’s to long of a story to go thru so here’s the short version:

My ESS never came on and in choice 6 on the EVIC it always said “Stop/Stop not ready battery charging and the voltage always read 14+ volts but had no issues starting or running but after the service folks checked the main battery they found it bad and replaced it so now ESS works perfectly and voltages are back where they were when i fist got it.

To hopefully keep things going strong like my battery as I to am a short distance driver I have a tender I plan on using to keep my battery happy

I spoke to @Rhinebeck01 and see what I now have on my bench, maybe not necessary but cheap insurance

There's a list of conditions in the owners manual that will prevent ESS from activating on its own. I'm guess you're not meeting one of those thresholds.

But I agree, whether you want to use ESS or not, it should work on a brand new vehicle!

It's your braking habits. Your first braking application, it's on; but if you let up, & go down again, it's off. Stay on one smooth stopping application, & it will work.

I appreciate your taking the time to post Frank @RamMan . For me the issue was addressed (if not solved) by trickle charging the rig overnight.

I've since secured down a trickle charger under the hood and brought its plug to the outside front of the rig near where the body comes in proximity to the bumper, to facilitate it being plugged in when needed.

Now...why I should need to do this...I'll have to take it for service.

Solved, at least in my mind would involve not having to pay for one form of energy (electric) to offset the cost of another (gasoline), not that trickle charges draw much current. It's a "principle" thing.:)

You should not have to constantly put your Jeep on a trickle charger for ESS to operate correctly, I would be looking at your battery voltage to see what it’s reading at the source and not what’s diplayed in the EVIC, what is displayed is kind of the voltage but it’s the voltage with alternator influence, case in point if you are seeing 14+ volts displayed that is the battery voltage with the alternator running full blast trying to charge the battery
