I came straight from JK 3.6 land into JLU 3.6 e-torque land. My question is well first off im assuming the engine braking is normal or should i contact my dealer lol. Is the engine braking an e-torque thing or an 8 speed auto thing? or neither of those? Tryin to learn myself on my new ride any info appreciated thanks!

My regular 3.6 8AT has very little engine braking, even with multiple downshifts. Must be an eTorque regen thing.

Same, re: the 2.0T w/the 850RE (no eTorque here) in my JLU.

A few of our Hondas certainly had it, but it was a programmed feature that was explicitly name-checked in the Owner's Manual. Thus I needed to adjust a bit to the near-constant smoothness of the Jeep's automatic transmission.

There's no engine brake to speak of. The ECM keeps the throttle partially open (and the gas pouring) during "deceleration" to keep the catalytic convertor from getting too hot.

There is some unofficial engine braking on etorque models as a form of regen braking for charging the larger etorque battery pack. It very little though, not like a tesla.

I have an eTorque Wrangler. I think what you are feeling is normal. As already mentioned, the eTorque motor-generator uses the energy of the decelerating vehicle/engine to charge the 48-volt eTorque system battery. That process does create a drag on the engine which helps to slow down the vehicle. It will definitely feel different than your JK Wrangler.

I like the braking from the 3.6 eTorque. It does feel like it's either engine braking or actually downshifting automagically. My wife's Cherokee just rolls when you take your foot off the gas.

Yeah, you are all good. I came from 2013 JK to 2021 JL both with 3.6. The eTorque does kinda feel like engine braking, but it like others stated, it is working as designed. Enjoy the new jeep.

I have a 21 eTorque and am a big fan-boy. I love it. What you are feeling is normal. Go enjoy it.

Ya, I had a 2016 JKU with the 3.6L and now have a 2021 JLU 80 with the 3.6L etorque. And there is a difference in the braking. A good difference. What you feel is normal. The etorque system is fantastic with the seemless start/stop or the added torque/hp off the line or smooth shifting.
