Just finished registering for EJS and the Elephant Hill runs were full within seconds of the registration opening. I am looking to try for Wed 3/27 when the event is not using the trail. Please message me if you are interested. I haven't been on this trail before but have done others in Moab with similar difficulty. Also have reservations for White Rim (Potato Bottom camp) for Fri night 3/29 and can add 2-3 people and their vehicles to my reservation.

We tried to get Elephant Hill as well and literally filled in seconds. Not sure how that happens but it did. We will be going up Friday but EH is a little too far for us. Hopefully you can get in. We ended up signing up for The Pickle and Gold Bar Rim.

Disappointing. I had an overnight reservation for EH (Devils Kitchen) last March just before EJS but it was snowing that day. So this will be my third attempt to get there. I also saw in the RR4W trail description that the maximum wheelbase for EH is 116" which matches JKU but JLU is 118". The Park Service website shows max overall length at 21' so not sure what is really the limit.

You won't have a problem with a JLU.

Glad I found this post. Was wondering what the deal was with the 116" restriction. Seems oddly specific like they're either A) Intentionally keeping JLU's out or B) Haven't bothered to update the trail guide in a few years (which seems unlikely seeing as they update dates/times/hosts every year).
Depending on how my registration bucket fills in, I might be looking to join in on Wednesday. :movember:

What's funny is the Park Service uses a JL Rubicon as their sweep vehicle to check the trail.

SAME!!!

1) Elephant Hill
2) Poison Spider
3) Poison Springs Road and all through The Maze District
Least favorite, actually hated) Eye of the Whale, yes, technically not in Moab.

I always wanted to go to EJS then heard it's a mess from a local RR4W guy and volunteer. I'd recommend doing Elephant Hill in a small group and taking the hike at the end. The hike is really cool, if you're into hiking at all. I won't spoil the hike, but, if you like hiking you'll like this hike. I think it was about a mile one way.

If you enjoy Elephant Hill, then take a gander at Poison Spider. The scenery is different and not as unique but it's another technical trail, a game of inches. I ran Poison Spider in my stock JLUR and EH after I was lifted and on 37s. We took a Land Rover on 33s through it and he made it unscathed.

Have fun!!!!
