Does anyone know of any app that is compatible with CarPlay that uses downloaded maps?

I’ve been running truck trails in northern MI (the sparsely used original roads up here, still marked, but rutted up single lane dirt roads in the woods). Being they are still technically “roads”, they still show up in apple and google maps. Though, away from main roads, the map display just drops out when cellular service is lost....which happens often.

I already have downloaded Topo maps on an iPad, but I’d really like to have a stable map display on the uconnect so I dont need to add any extra mount.

Google Maps allows you to download maps for offline use, have you tried that?

What about this: buy a burner tracfone-type Android device and run Android Auto? Since you can download Google maps for a certain period of time (on WiFi), you could swap to that device when off-road.

Just mount your phone to your dash and use Google Maps offline. You can select fairly large areas to download for offline use. When you are out in areas when you would need offline maps - you won't miss that Carplay.

That's how I do it.

Google Maps on Android Auto doesn't even support offline maps. Yet...

I use this:

iPad Pro 10.4"
Gaia GPS (w/Membership $19.95/year so I can pre-download maps)
Bad Elf GPS Pro+ (for GPS signal streaming over bluetooth to the iPad)

We already had the iPad and the GPS, but if you're starting from scratch, it's an expensive solution. But it works *great*. The offline USFS maps really help. And no LTE or wifi signal necessary while on the trail. I just throw the Bad Elf unit in the rubber cubby area on the top of the dash. Seriously works great.

Next I'm trying to get a RAM Mount for the iPad to attach it to the Vector bar for the JL when that's ready.

Once done, I'll post something up here.
