Door stops / checks ?

I know there is a new internal door stop design (door check) for the JL, but is it known whether the doors will just swing open freely like the JK or will there be some resistance or position stops like a traditional vehicle door? The new design appears similar to the aftermarket Mopar door checks, so hoping the latter is true.

In the close-up diagram, it doesn’t seem to have gradations to it, and it doesn’t appear to have additional arresting equipment like rubber band-like tensioners or hydraulics.

It seems to be very slim along most of it until it tappers at the end and then has a slight indentation, which would lead me to believe it’s likely rollers behind on a bit of pressure to snap in place one it passes through that indentation, and then offer just a little resistance when returning to closed.

Likely something like this inside with some level of spring-loading on the rollers.

Might even be less technical with just some piece of metal (like a tiny leaf spring) or piece of rubber that do the same job by providing a bit of resistance and deforming through that wider part and returning to shape in the gap of the long part when in the closed position.

Yeah...the base of the door check must have some spring that gets depressed when the door closes. Of course is easily removable as well. Is the door check now standard?

Appears to be. They could make it optional on the base Sport, but is it worth the effort on FCA’s part, especially when it’s likely pretty cheap to them, and very easy for those of us who might not like or want it to remove it. I would guess it’s likely standard on all of them.

It needs to have detents at at least 2 locations plus full open, otherwise is just a rigid strap that adds no value, doors will still swing open uncontrollably, or close on you when on a hill. No added value vs current method. Why add the cost (metal = more $ than cheap piece of fabric) if it adds no functional value?

I love my Smart Door stops which have 3 detents. Star Fabricating

It would stil stop them from closing on their own on a grade/angle , which i likely their primary/sole purpose. Won’t do everything people need, but addresses a big ‘reviewer moaning point’, and something most of us have had to deal with when hands are full.

they thankfully fixed that on later model JK's. I agree, that was a complete pain in the whatever it hit when closing when you didn't want it to.

Looks like you are correct, I see one detent at the end of the arm. Full open detent is a step in the right direction. But in a parking lot the door can still swing closed or hit the car next to it. But we've all dealt with this issue. Aftermarket opportunity, make a replacement part with more detents.

The new metal door check have one middle detent / stop. So there's two stages of opening -- halfway and fully open.

I just purchased a jk sport two door soft top and there are no detents on the doors and it really is
surprising. A Jeep thing? Again? That’s getting old fast. But, I still love my jeep.

It’s a Jeep thing no more since FCA installed door checks on the JL. You can always install aftermarket door checks in your JK.
