getting a quote to rehear from 456 to 488 the company sent me this warning. Is it correct?

ON JL / JT RUBICON MODELS, IT IS VERY COMMON FOR A SERVICE LOCKER LIGHT TO COME ON THE DASH AFTER ANY SERVICE OR REGEAR. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE FROM THE FACTORY AND IT IS KNOWN TO HAPPEN ON STOCK VEHICLES. REBEL OFF ROAD IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ISSUE. IT IS A FACTORY LOCKER SENSOR ISSUE, WHICH IS NOT SERVICED SEPARATELY, ONLY WITH THE ENTIRE LOCKER ASSEMBLY. Z AUTOMOTIVE MAKES THE Z LOCKER OEM WHICH BYPASSES THE FAULTY SENSOR, AND ALLOWS PROPER OPERATION, AND CAN BE PURCHASED FROM REBEL OFF ROAD FOR $179.00 PER AXLE. IT IS MORE COMMON FOR THIS ISSUE TO OCCUR WITH THE REAR AXLE.

SEALS AT THE TIME OF REGEARS, AS THEY MAY LEAK AFTER THE AXLE SHAFTS ARE REMOVED AND REINSTALLED.

I mean that would make sense, especially if the issue is driven from a factory flaw, another manufacturer wont take that hit/fall

I don't think anyone expects a shop to be responsible for a genuine factory defect. My concern is the wording of the disclaimer. It implies that if a service locker light appears after the regear, it's simply a common factory issue and the shop isn't responsible. Those aren't the same thing.

If the locker light comes on immediately after the work, the shop should first verify the installation, wiring, connectors, and locker operation before concluding the factory sensor happened to fail. The JL/JT locker sensors are a known weak point, but that doesn't mean every post-regear locker light should automatically be attributed to a factory defect.

I guess my question really is how often do these locker switches on original equipment actually fail? Especially after being re-geared ironically I bought two of them quite a while ago because I thought it would be a common problem as a backup. For a trail repair.
my main concern is two things number one. I don’t want the seals to leak so I’m gonna have new seals put in number two. I hate electronic lights on my dashboard freaks me out so I don’t want that to happen either.

I had my locker fail by it trying to activate when I was driving, I believe it was a sensor of some kind, but the 3rd party warranty took care of it so I dont know what the price was

Comes down to what they define as immediately, is that when it's done, a few miles, a day? For me when wording gets too confusing and in the gray, I would look at other options just in case.

The factory sensor is not reliable. The gear oil itself is what shorts the sensor out. You can install the Z bypasses now at regear or down the road but you will eventually be doing it.

There are shops near me that require a change of locker sensor and seal at the time of regear - they make it part of their quote.

P.S. Is it really effective to go through the expense of a regear for a 7% change in gear ratio? To me that is like paying for a boob job for the gf to go from AA-cup to A-cup. I'd say for gears it's minimum 10% for boobs it is minimum 2 cup sizes. But that is just me.

They fail all the time! I bought 3 Z automotive bypasses with 1 spare. Waiting for the front locker to go soon.

sounds like the kind of place I would want to do my gears as they are upfront from the get go.

Well with 37s. A new camper top and soon to add full metal cloak skid plates …. the jeep is getting a bit heavy

I actually bought 2 of z locker switches. for spares just in case
and I go this response
"Sounds good, we generally keep all the seals in stock just in case they need to be replaced since the JT is newer it would be pretty rare if they are needed same thing on the Z-locker plugs it was really only an issue on early model Rubicons."

4.57 to 4.88 isn’t really worth the work or expense, there’s not mich difference between the two. Might a well jump to 5.12.
