Remember folks just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean someone is not out to get you.

I looked in my owners manual and it does not say they are going to spy on me..in the Sirius hand out it does say they will collect information so they can send you promotional information on siriusxm but beyond that I did not see a whole lot that made it sound like they could sell your information. Not saying it is not hidden in there but I did not see it and I looked.

Uconnect Privacy Policy:

The one that 😳 😆 me in the UConnect supplement was the statement that they can/may collect images from any of your Jeep's cameras.

I think I'll send UConnect a 🍆 pic.

I have not activated any of the connected services but it's difficult to discern what is meant by "We collect Covered Data from a Vehicle when Connected Services are activated, which includes vehicle and driving data, precise geolocation data, biometrics, and other sensitive and personal information that is linked or linkable to Vehicle and other drivers of a Vehicle or users of the Connected Services."

What does activated mean? I haven't directly registered for Sirius, Jeep Connect, etc., or used those services to the best of my knowledge. Tough to know what the boundary for Jeep Connect is when "in-vehicle and onboard systems, sensors, software, features, and equipment, as well as mobile applications and other features, technologies, and services we make available (collectively, the 'Connected Services'." It's a nice catch all blanket statement. Might be worth scoping the below though!

Deactivate Connected Services and Stop Collection of Covered Data. Expiration or termination of your Connected Services subscription does not automatically stop all collection of Covered Data from your Vehicle. If you want to stop remote transmission and collection of Covered Data from your Vehicle, you must contact us as follows and request to “Cancel for

Privacy Reasons
:”

  • SiriusXM Guardian Subscribers: call 844-796-4827 (toll free) and request to cancel for privacy reasons.

  • Vehicle Connect Subscribers (including Jeep® Connect, Ram® Connect, Wagoneer® Connect, Alfa® Connect, Chrysler® Connect, and Dodge®Connect): call 800-777-3600 and request to cancel for privacy reasons.

If you cancel for privacy reasons, wireless transmission network service will be deactivated for your Vehicle once your request has been processed, which means that: (i) remote transmission and collection of Covered Data from your Vehicle will be stopped; (ii) most Connected Services will not be available to you, including emergency and roadside services and Wi-Fi-enabled services; and (iii) your Vehicle will no longer receive updates to your in-vehicle manual or other over-the-air updates. Certain in-vehicle safety, diagnostic and other systems may continue to generate and store performance, safety and diagnostic information, which may be accessed by independent dealers and others who service your Vehicle and shared with FCA and others for performance, safety, warranty and related purposes.

Looks like they've removed all references to privacy and direct people through the UConnect supplemental book or website where the privacy policy is contained.
yea and they do not include a Uconnect supplement book...I guess they need to save money somewhere.....

Unless you're using a flip phone (and even then) your location is being tracked and sold, which you gave permission for when signing up for your cellphone service.

Yes, you absolutely can remove all this stuff from your Jeep if you want, but don't think that your location isn't being tracked anyways (and has been for *years*).

In most cases, it's not unique - John Smith - but rather part of an aggregate, and usually only has demographic and psychographic markers on it.

I.e. it's pretty easy to track or buy a dataset of the location habits of White Men Aged 40-50 who buy off-road vehicles, make $200K-300K/year, travel domestically frequently, and enjoy offroad and outdoor sports.

It's much more difficult/expensive to get ahold of John Smith's specific travel (and unless you're breaking the law, not many people care anyways, tbh).
I have a smart phone that is designed not to bleed data. It runs on Graphene OS. There are no trackers at all. No location or biometrics are gathered. No data is stored and it has a physical sim. The jeep is gonna get a lobotomy soon.

I get that. It just always makes me laugh that some people on this forum are willing to rip their Jeep apart to remove an antenna and probably used their iPhone to search YouTube for the videos on how to do it.
For me the difference is that with my phone you can’t necessarily prove I’m doing anything wrong, and i am not seeing real-world negative impacts of being tracked.

With the GM case, they were reporting driving to insurance companies and real people couldn’t renew, saw rates hiked, etc. However with a phone, you can’t prove I’m driving. Maybe I was a passenger, in an Uber, whatever.

I don’t love being tracked, but I’m not willing to fight that hard against it because there isn’t a lot of real downside that I see. Versus my car, the downside is obvious, apparent, and happening to people, and I want to prevent that.

And I can always just leave my phone at home.

There are downsides to being tracked on your phone. You aren't aware of them because most of these control mechanisms have not come directly into play yet but they are coming. Carbon footprint, geoprison, travel permissions/ curfews. They are there in the system. FYI.

Sure and if and when they come I’ll mitigate as necessary. But they aren’t as in my face as the insurance debacle with GM/Honda/etc.

And I can always leave my phone at home. Note my other car is a 2003 Honda sports car with no interconnected anything, throttle cable, no traction control, etc etc etc.
