mine did not get any quieter; they never made any noise in the first place.

Don't wait until the break-in because once they reset the gears, then the new mesh will require a little bit of breakin. Earlier you can get in there, the better it will be for the gearset.

Yeah, definitely throw it into 4HI from time to time on straight roads only, of course, and at slower speeds. Don't forget to put the Jeep into reverse in 4HI, as well, to make sure you don't have any pinion preload issues.

You got to remember that the torque required to move the ring gear comes from the pinion literally trying to unscrew itself from the ring gear. So total preload set during install is great, but is usually only tested in one direction; FWD. I always check reverse with the front diff in 4HI since it never gets checked or tested until you're off road or in the snow.
Gotcha, i’m gonna see if i can schedule it with him soon then, 30mph the front whines under load a little. The rear only seems to whine on decel, its very quiet whine but it’s there.

Didn’t even think of reverse in 4hi, so i’ll start messing with that today as well.

Correct, but it's incredibly rare.
FYI after my regear mine still whines only coasting above 60. Unless both I and the factory screwed up the preloads (seems doubtful), something else is whining. I'll just drive on.

I've never seen a gear whine improve with time.

Decel whine isn’t caused by bearing preload, it’s a gear mesh issue.

Hmm. Both the OEM gears and mine sound the same. So either we both messed up the gear mesh in the exact same way or it's something else (maybe the diff housing is weird?). I ended up at the same pinion depth as factory but also had tested .003 deeper pinion and that pattern was definitely on the deep side, so I feel confident I'm not too shallow. It's mild enough I can live with it. Zero noise at coast at 55 and under. I guess I'll find out in 50k miles if something wears out.

My Yukon gears have been quiet since install early this year.
